The Benefits of Saying YES!
Are you hindering your blog growth? You may be missing the benefits of saying yes and growing your blog!
I’ve been reading up on a new DIY/Craft centered show on NBC called Making It and am becoming more and more intrigued about the show. This morning, I decided to watch the show on demand and as I’m watching I being wondering whether the show has begun casting for the next season. Then a realization hits me. Months and months ago, I received an email from a casting agency saying they wanted to discuss a show opportunity with me.
The Benefits of Saying YES
I’m not sure whether it was to cast for Making It or not, but I do know is that I immediately thought that I wasn’t talented enough to be on tv so the email must have been a joke. I told my husband about it and he, being the cheerleader that he is, told me I should respond back and just hear them out. After more thinking, I still couldn’t see myself as someone who other people would even want to see on tv. I allowed a fear of rejection and feelings of inadequacy overwhelm me. I never responded to the email and now months later I’m sitting here thinking that I may have missed a huge opportunity.
Take a moment and ask yourself….
How many opportunities have you passed up on for fear of rejection?!
It’s easy to tell people to be confident and take chances, but are you following your own advice?
When was the last time you said “Yes!” to something you didn’t feel 100% sure about?
Confidence does come with age, but that doesn’t mean that you must be 100% confident in order to give something new a shot. You may be overly surprised by what the opportunity presents. It could be a life changing moment or complete disaster. Regardless of the outcome, there is a sense of calm that comes when you know what that outcome is versus the unknown. This extends to life and your professional work.
Saying Yes to Opportunities
Are you taking chances for your blog business? Perhaps it’s time to stop waiting for the 100% assurance and take a chance saying yes. When you say yes for your business, you’ll find that you’re meeting new people and creating new contacts for future work. Perhaps this time you won’t get everything you want in an ideal collaboration, but what you did get is a contact for future work. If the collaboration opportunity aligns with your blog’s focus or aim, then stop saying no it’s not worth it and start saying yes!
One of the biggest turning points for my business was when I heard Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Erika Girardi aka Erika Jayne, say that she found success in her career by simply saying yes! She said yes to being on the show, yes to acting appearances, yes to a book deal all of which she would have said no to some other time in her life. Each of these yeses have brought her more and more success. Regardless if you’re a fan of her alter ego Erika Jayne or not, there is truth behind her logic. When it comes to your career, are you saying yes enough?
Create a new opportunity for your blog by saying Yes! Sure, that company may not be offering top notch compensation for a collaboration but what ARE they offering. Is it an opportunity to get your blog in front of new eyes? Will the experience create a window toward something that you can’t get elsewhere?
Think about what it will take to say yes to the opportunity and extend that criteria as a starting point of discussion with the company. Really examine what you are giving up by saying no to an experience. It could be an opportunity that could change your life or business!
