3 Easy Jello Shots
3 easy jello shots to serve all fancy shmancy at your next gathering!
You’re never too old for jello shots….well as long as you are over the age of 21. I recently held a gathering and decided that I’d serve jello shots. Such a random idea, especially since I had never made them before. You can’t argue that jello shots bring the best of your childhood into your adulthood though. The only downside was that the jello shots looked like pure college level jello shots. There was no pizazz to them! They tasted great, but looked pretty plain. With a few added toppings, these easy jello shots turned into mini adult desserts!
Making jello is quite easy. Essentially, you mix a cup of boiling water with the jello packet contents and then mix in ice cold water. For jello shots, you’ll want to substitute flavored cold vodka for the cold water. If you prefer less alcohol, mix half a cup of cold water with half a cup of cold vodka. Have fun combining flavors of jello with vodka. I used a Raspberry flavored jello and added black cherry vodka to it. The blackberry jello was mixed with plain vodka and the lemon lime jello was mixed with citrus vodka. Use disposable 2 oz cups to make each jello shot and refrigerate at least 4-6 hours for best result.
Once the jello is all set, top your jello shots with all sorts of goodies! Use whipped cream, fresh fruit, or fruit zest to create amazing looking jello shot desserts. Roll some fruit in honey and then in sugar to make tasty toppings for your jello shots. It’ll be hard for your guests to pass on these great looking jello shots.
Don’t shy away from using fruit that’s not included in the flavoring of the vodka. I used blue hued berries to top this jello shot and added the a sprig of mint to complement the blue.
Use fruits in complementing colors as toppings as well. Citrus fruits always look great together. Slice oranges, limes, or lemons to make an easy topper in seconds.
