DIY Anthropologie Inspired Painted Planters

Bring the outdoors in with these diy Anthropologie inspired painted planters.

Summer time is just around the corner!  I’m excited to be joining Shauna of Satori Design For Living for her annual Outdoor Extravaganza!  Each Thursday for the next few weeks, a group of awesome bloggers will share outdoor projects and ideas.  Today’s theme is outdoor plants and flowers.  Two of my favorite things!  I created some super cute diy Anthropologie inspired painted planters to kick off the extravaganza.

I took inspiration from an Anthropologie planter I saw online.  For some reason the planter is MIA on the site now.  I suppose it sold out??  Anyway, the abstract florals are the perfect blend of nature and summer colors.  I used these planters to bring an outdoor vibe in my bedroom that received a one day modern bohemian makeover.  You can check out the full bedroom makeover on youtube.

These diy painted planters were created using paint pens and the same painting technique I used for my diy painted Mother’s day cards.  Speaking of Mother’s day, these diy planters can be given as pretty Mother’s day or Teacher appreciation gifts!  I still have to finish up my teacher’s appreciation gifts for the kiddos teachers.  It has taken a bit of time to get the gifts together now that there are 6 teachers between my two kiddos.  Scroll down to check out how I created these diy Anthropologie inspired painted planter.

DIY Painted Planters

To create your planters, start by creating various sizes of dots in the lightest paint pen color. These dots will be bases for flowers and accents. Then, repeat the process with each light colored paint pen.  Paint swirls, foliage, and layer the dots on top of each other to create your design.  There are no wrong marks here.  Use the darker and bolder shades of paint pens to give your flowers more depth.  I also liked using non-traditional colors to create the floral stems and add additional accents to the green stems.

I’m so excited to finally be outdoors again.  After such a harsh winter and mountains of snow, it’s wonderful to be able to see the greenery flourishing in the front yard.  Now I just need to take a weekend to trim and tame it all.  I would have done it by now had there not been so many bees!  I tell you, the bees are really loving my yard this year.
