When it comes to decorating for any season, other than Christmas, I typically take a more simple approach. Though, simple to me may not be the same as what others may say is simple decorating, ie. my husband. The struggle is real when you’re a maximalist decorator and your partner is not. So, I tone down as much as I can to stay true to myself and provide a welcoming home for my family. There is nothing worse than coming home and not feeling like it’s your retreat from the world’s stresses. Organizing while you are creating a space you like is one of the most important factors of decorating a home. That is why I loved reading Kathy’s of Up To Date Interiors new edition of Love Your Space. In her ebook, Kathy takes the stress of decorating your home by breaking down the process into 30 days. Each day you are given a task to complete to make your home the best it can be. Keep reading to the end to see how you can get a copy and enter a giveaway. I started making my home fall ready by decorating and organizing my simple fall mantel decor.
Our family room is right off of the kitchen and is a narrow space. One of the first priorities for my fall room refresh was to give the illusion that this space was larger. So, I switched the angle of my large mantel mirror to be upright. The room looked more spacious instantly. It’s pretty much the equivalent of hanging your curtains closer to the ceiling to make the room look larger. I moved my beautiful Parrot in the Jungle art from the dining room onto the mantel. The colors within this print are spectacular for any season. The green and teal mixed with the black of the parrot warm the hot pink color. This print is perfect for the jewel tones I love to use for fall.
Keeping the rule of three in mind, I kept my Pink Palm art print but moved it to the side to create an artistic asymmetrical look. The Pink Palm art is available for free download to all subscribers, by the way. My thrifted gold tone clock continues the gold theme from the large mirror. Instead of florals, I decided to use maple tree twigs. I can easily add smaller accents as we get more into the fall season, but the basis of my mantel is all set with this simple mantel decor. I’m debating whether to update those black candle pedestals, but for now they pick up the black colors from the parrot.
I love this new look for the mantel and even more that I did it completely free by shopping my home for the accent pieces.
