Hola!

All the fall colors are finally coming out around the neighborhood.  The flowers featured at many of the flower shops are taking that great autumn color palette, the leaves are starting to turn orange and brown, and our homes start feeling just a bit more welcoming.  I know it’s time to rock the sweaters and boots when I start seeing leaves falling on the concrete driveway.  I took inspiration from this to create a DIY faux concrete dollar store vase.  You know how much I love to use unconventional vases.  This vase was a repurposed dollar store sugar container!  Display your beautiful fall bouquets in this DIY dollar store vase for a great balance of hard and soft visuals.  Here is how you can make your own DIY faux concrete and glass vase.

What You Need:

  • Glass container or vase
  • FolkArt Faux Concrete Paint (Light and Dark)
  • Brush

Using both shades of the faux concrete vase allows you to have a more realistic composition with highlights and dimension.  I wanted to have the look as though the glass was coming out of the concrete, so I opted for the concrete to be at an angle.  Tape off or paint your glass free handed with the dark concrete paint first (2).  After your paint has dried, dab on the lighter shade of the faux concrete paint (3).  If you have too much highlights, use a moist paper towel to remove any excess.  This also can distress your vase to show a bit of glass in spots around the concrete portion.  It’s like a peek a boo game with glass and concrete!

  1. I love your faux concrete vase! I need to get me some of that paint because I love the look of concrete, but not so much the mess 🙂
