Global, Eclectic Dining Room Makeover: One Room Challenge Week 2
Hola!
I’m coming to you from the new Casa Watkins Living website! Casa Watkins Living is the 2.0 version of Casa Watkins. This new site will provide you with more global decor inspiration, DIY projects, family friendly recipes, tips for the multicultural family, bilingual homeschooling resources, and so much more! More to come, so please bare with me as I continue to update the site. Unfortunately, your lovely comments did not transfer over. However, I appreciate every word you have left for me over the past 1.5 years. Let’s make more memories together!
Now on to my global dining room progress!
I’m pretty sure I jinxed myself. Last week, I shared how I had the flu for almost the entire one room challenge last season. Well, I became ill with a cold and then a stomach virus this past week! I’m finally feeling some energy to do some work in the dining room, but not enough to finish before I had to share my progress today.
To refresh your memory, or if you’re new to Casa Watkins Living, I’ll be transforming my dining room into a global, eclectic dining room retreat over the course of 6 weeks for the One Room Challenge hosted by Calling It Home. If you missed week 1, you can catch up here.
I received quite a few of the room goodies and am so thrilled to show you! If you follow me on instagram, you probably have seen some of these photos. You can follow me here, for sneak peaks of the room as well as other Casa Watkins Living posts.
I received these beautifully crafted Moroccan Hammam bowls from El Ramla Hamra! These bowls are traditionally used to pour water over hands and body. I’m thinking they’d look beautiful as a vase for a small bouquet. I also received a Moroccan tray that is DIVINE! I can’t wait to share that. Sneak peaks will be shared on Instagram and Twitter!
The stunning Sarton chairs from LampsPlus also arrived! Not only are the rattan seats perfect for the global dining room feel, but they are oh so comfortable. I found myself sitting on them when I should have been clearing the room.
Can you imagine these chairs next to the Mountain dining table from Urban Home!! I’m thinking it would look similar to this room.
One of my To Do’s this weekend is to paint the room. I decided to use Sherwin Williams Versatile Gray, which is the same color in the kitchen and family room.
Once the room is painted, the Parrots in the Jungle art work by Cozamia will hung. I’m loving the colors in this print! I originally planned to pull the blue color for the drapes, but the green is also calling my name.
I’m still on the fence with two items: the rug and the drapes? I originally had envisioned blue ikat panels, but now I’m getting drawn to these beauties from Ikea. Which do you think would be best?
Thanks so much for stopping by my casa!

I love the blue ikat panels, but I am a sucker for ikat! I absolutely love those bowls too! And congrats on the new site!
Thanks Amanda! I adore Ikat and have been wanting some ikat curtains for a while. I’m so torn between the two looks. 🙂
Oh dear, I hope you feel better. Lots of work ahead of you and no time for being down. Love those chairs, they are going to make the room feel so much lighter. Can’t wait to see the results
Thanks so much Maggie!!! I totally agree. The room will look completely different with lighter furniture. Can’t wait to show you the table!
Glad to see you are fine and congrats on the 2.0 version. 🙂
Your picks are looking great!
Thanks so much Nancy! So excited about this new look!
Everything looks great Stephanie ! I LOVE the artwork , it’s such a revelation to me , I’m gonna checkout the website. Glad to hear you are better !
As for the drapes – the blue looks great in the mood board, but I also like the green – it’s different!
Congrats on the new website ! Looks great 🙂
Thanks so much Vin!! I’m excited you love it. Cozamia art work is so beautiful and you will love the assortment!
I love your new site! I also loved the old one! its all beautiful, I think you said you converted into word press, which is what I use an love. I am in love with the dining room pics, especially the drapes! those colors are hot! Good luck and congrats.
Thanks so much Maria!!! I’m still learning my way around WP but am excited to use all the new features.
Ooh! I love all of the pieces you’ve gotten so far!! The blue curtains would be my first choice, only because I’d be afraid the green would cause the beautiful artwork to blend instead of pop, but then again, it could be really pretty if you want an all green room. Either way, it’ll be beautiful!
Aww thanks so much Iris! That’s a good point! I seriously may need to see both in person. You know when you try on shoes and have a different shoe on each foot. I’ll have to do the same for the window haha.
Steph I adore the direction that your room is headed towards! You did SO much better than I did in my room this week.
I would love for you to share this post at Thoughts of Home on Thursday. I think our readers would really enjoy it!
Good luck in the upcoming week!
Thank you so much Laura! I’d love to share it. Hoping to have more completed next week. We can do this Laura!!! I’ll have to check out how far you got too!
Those chairs are lovely! Looking forward to seeing them with everything else.
Thank you Sarah!!! Hopefully I will have more to share next week.
I love your design board for your dining room. The chairs are gorgeous. Congrats on your new site. I know what you mean about the comments disappearing. I changed my blog name and the same thing happened.
Hi Trish! Thank you so much my friend. I’ll have to check out your new site. 🙂
Sorry you haven’t been feeling well. That’s never fun. Just to throw in my two cents, I like the blue ikat curtains best, but I think either would look great with everything else you have planned. Hope you’re feeling better this week.
Thanks so much Erin! It’s going to be a tough call. I may need to see both in room :\
I think I like the Ikea drapes better… they are a better statement, but, then again, I am into strong colors… I chose a dark navy blue wallpaper for my children’s room, I hope it works OK.
Ojala te sientas mejor.
Muchas gracías Mila! I love dark accents as well, its the Ikat pattern that is drawing me but I do love a great green color too.
I am in love with your chairs!!!! I also like the IKEA curtains…they are so Justine!!!
Yea!! I totally agree. Very jungalow style. So glad you love it.
Oh my goodness, Stephanie! That’s a lot going on – new website, a stomach virus and the One Room Challenge. I hope you’re feeling better so you’re able to paint this weekend. I love the global look you’re going for in your dining room. I think it’s going to be fantastic.
Thanks so much Carrie. Yes, I completely underestimated how much the illnesses would drain my energy. 🙂 Hopefully I can catch up this weekend. :\
What a fun and beautiful plan Stephanie! I love the direction you’re headed! And your blog looks fantastic!!!!!!!!!
Aww thanks so much Lisa!! It’s still a work in progress. 🙂
Stephanie, what rotten luck with coming down sick two weeks in a row! I’m hoping you’re feeling better this week! 🙂 I love some Ikat, but I do like the green as well. I think it’s sort of unexpected. So exciting that everything is coming in!
This is going to be stunning! I can’t wait to see it all pulled together. I like the blue drapes, but both are beautiful. 🙂
Hmm, I think I’m leaning towards the green panels because they are just so much fun – but at the same time, they may be a bit too much with all the other elements. I think it’s one of those times that you’ll have to get them both and decide (hopefully you can easily return the ones that don’t work!).
I hope you’re feeling better! I don’t think I’ve ever met an ikat I didn’t love, but I know whichever curtains you pick will look amazing in your dining room!
I love that table so much, I’ve never heard of Urban Home but it looks like I have several locations close by! I need to go check them out! I also love the blue ikat curtains.
