DIY Coastal Specimen Art using Vase Fillers
Hola!
I can’t believe summer is around the corner already! Summer is one of my favorite times to decorate since I get to use a lot of coastal, beachy items. Shells and sea life decor are a Summer must around the house. I came across a set of vase fillers from Target that I loved. I didn’t need them for vase fillers, but I thought I could make something great with them. Then I came up with the idea to use them as a specimen art piece. I love the way it turned out and can’t wait to finish up the rest of the gallery wall.
This is a very easy project to do and is a fun addition to a gallery wall. The set of vase fillers was around $12.00 and the shadow box frame was on sale for about $8.00 from Joann Fabrics.
Measure a sheet of coastal colored paper against the frame of the shadow box. Use you pencil to trace around the frame and cut your paper. Insert your cut paper into the frame. I had to remove the frame glass since my sea life specimen pieces were too thick for my frame. I would suggest you use at least a 2” shadow box depth. Mine was only about 1”.
Arrange your sea life vase fillers on the paper. Make sure to have the same distance between the top and bottom of the page as you arrange your sea life vase fillers. When you love the arrangement, use your glue gun to adhere your sea life specimens onto the paper.
All done! How easy was that? The blue and white stripes of the paper complements the white color of the sea life specimens. I am currently working on updating my family room gallery wall and this coastal specimen art piece will make a great addition.
Thanks so much for stopping by my casa. I hope you enjoy making your own coastal specimen art piece. The next time you see some vase fillers at the store, think about using them in a specimen art piece.
