Welcome to Casa Watkins
Hello! My name is Stephanie.
I am very excited to start this new aspect of my life and to share it with everyone in hopes that it can help others. I am a Registered Nurse, so I am in the business of helping others. I was not planning to start a blog originally. I had heard of blogs in the past, but never read nor followed any. I first started discovering blogs when I became ADDICTED to pinterest. I liked seeing the different ideas popping up on pinterest and when I traced it to the source, often times they came from bloggers. So, my new interest in blogs started. Some of my Mommy friends and family members suggested that I share some of my ideas and I thought, “Why not use a blog platform?” and here I am today.
For today, I thought I’d share some things about myself and my hopes or goals for this blog.
My husband, Damian, and I have been married since 2010. He owns his own business and is a great father to all three of his children. We had a great destination wedding at my family’s home country of the Dominican Republic. Many of my family members only speak Spanish and its quite cute to see Damian try to converse with them when he hasn’t learned more than just simple Spanish words.
After we married, I moved into the house he already owned. This house is a good looking house, but it needed a lot of homey touches all around. I am just getting to all of those things now that the babies are a little older. It is very hard to make a home when you have a newborn. It’s even harder when you find out that you are pregnant again when your newborn is no more than 3 months old!!!
Now, I have the time and dedication to use my skills and share with you my spin of home diy decor and more. What is most important to me is that my children be able to embrace both of their parents’ culture and speak both languages. It is definitely difficult to improve their Spanish language skills when they are also just learning to speak, but my hope is that we can all share in the journey and establish some good teaching methods. I don’t have a degree in early education, but I do have a Master’s degree in Nursing Education so some concepts could still apply.
Nugget is 3 and is speaking pretty good English and very little Spanish. I’ll be focusing on translating his learned concepts into Spanish. Chi-Chi is pretty much still in the babbling stage. She is 2 and says some English phrases (hi, bye, oh-oh, there he is, etc.) so my plan is to teach more concepts in English with a few in Spanish for her.
Thank you so much for stopping by and I hope you continue to join me.
