7 Things To Pick Up At Your Thrift Store
Visiting a thrift store soon? Here are 7 things to pick up at your thrift store and how to use them!
If you’re not visiting your local thrift store at least once a month, then you’re missing out on some great scores! That saying, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure is so true. I have found so many great goodies shopping my local thrift store and several of the items have been almost new! Check out these 7 things you should never pass up at a thrift store and some ideas on how to use them in your eclectic home. And now a warning…… NOW A WARNING! (Love to my Death Becomes Her fans who would have got that reference) Be good to your wallet. Go in with a set budget or you’ll end up buying way more than expected. Thrifting should make you feel great about buying awesome items for your life and home without the anxiety of a big credit card bill. I always put one item back before heading to the checkout stand. It’s typically an item that I liked initially, but not necessarily a need.
7 Things To Pick Up While Thrift Store Shopping
1. Champagne buckets are a rare find at a thrift store. These silver buckets are awesome containers for nearly anything! Use it in the kitchen to organize cooking utensils, in your craft room as a paint brush holder, or simply add a plant for a quirky planter.
2. Wooden trays or bowls that are in great condition are never to be passed. Especially, if they are authentic to a culture. This colorful wood bowl was a stunning find on one of my thrift shopping ventures. Not only is it a great addition to my coffee table, but can also be a nice touch to a gallery wall.
3. Patterned plates in a set that work into your own aesthetic are golden. Most people donate plate sets that have a few pieces missing or broken. So, when you find a set of at least 4 (although 6 is preferred) grab those suckers! Patterned plates can add a beautiful element to your tablescape and often can be used for several seasonal table looks or wall decor.
4. Furniture with minor wear are excellent candidates for makeovers. It wont take too much energy to give these pieces a coat of paint or reupholster with a fabulous new fabric. I scored this old chair for $15 and recovered with faux fur fabric to create a new chic office chair.
5. Lamps can be a little expensive depending on the brand and style you’d like. You’re in luck, however, since thrift stores carry a wide assortment of lamps. Whether you prefer a simple or ornate lamp, thrift stores can provide you with the style you want at a fraction of the cost. You can always update your lamp with paint or ribbon.
6. Plant stands are a must for bohemian style homes. There are just too many plants to keep them on one surface. Scout your thrift store for good quality plant stands which can be adorned with a boho tassel.
7. Napkin rings sold at thrift stores are typically grouped into a collection. I scored a bag full of over 20 napkin rings that I have used as decor features around the house. Place the rings in glass containers for a table centerpiece or as decor on a bar cart.
Happy shopping!
