Spanish Sabado #4: Los Dias De La Semana Morning Board

Today I have a small, quick project you can do to increase your child’s knowledge of the days of the week.  Los dias de la semana in Spanish is not something that Nugget or Chi-Chi have mastered at all.  Nugget, age 3, knows the days of the week in English and is pretty good at saying what the day is when asked.  Chi-Chi, however, at age 2 pretty much only sings the days of the week song but not too clearly.  Nugget has been getting pretty good saying the days of the week in Spanish since using this quick morning board.

I came across this dry erase board in the clearance section of Target.  It was a $1.30 and with my Red Card discount turn out to be just a little over a dollar.  I really like this board since it already has the days written in English.  Since our aim is to increase our knowledge of the Spanish translation, I made sure to write out los dias de la semana big and clear.

I used my dry erase markers to write out the days, but I would suggest using permanent markers since both kiddos really enjoyed removing the letters with their fingers.  The permanent markers helped solved this issue.

Write, “Hoy Es”, on the magnet circle so that your child can use it to identify what day “Today is.”
I used the magnet strips on the back to hang the board on the refrigerator.  Not only is this at an easy view for the kids, but serves as constant reminder throughout the day.

It is best to review all days of the week first.  We reviewed them in English first, then all the days in Spanish.

Then they were able to place the “Hoy es” marker on today’s day.  They really enjoy this part of the day.
