FINALLY, I have finished my powder room makeover. I can’t believe that it has taken this long, but much of my time was spent finding the perfect accents. Who says you can’t make a statement in the smallest room of your home?
I am so happy to share this transformation with you all. I had several instances where the styling would change over and over again. I thought about going completely cottage, completely vintage french, and ultimately I just decided that I needed to simply decorate based upon what I liked and not based on the chosen style. Here is my
powder room design board, but I changed it up a bit from the original.
I still can’t identify my style, but I’ve decided that its not going to matter at this moment. If I give my style a name, then I feel that I would be stuck in that specific style. Sometimes you fall in love with an accent piece that simply doesn’t fit that style and you choose not to use it.
Well, no more! I’m breaking free and just going to design based on my own furniture loves and accent crushes. Side note, I saw this fantastic tv stand at Pier 1 today that I can’t get out of my mind! Isn’t it gorgeous!
….Back to my powder room. I kept the same dark blue walls. I contemplated stenciling a design, but decided against it since I think I’m going to do a denim like finish to the walls in the future.
The green geometric rug was purchased from Home Goods. The powder room is too small for a 5×7 rug, so I needed to opt for a much smaller size. Regardless of the size, the rug still complements the blue walls.
The silver tone mirror was refinished to make it look like a gilded silver mirror. I think it reads a little shabby chic, which I like. This mirror was a 3 day affair. I originally was going to do a galvanized metal finish, but it looked too dark with the wall color. So, I just painted over my hard work with ivory chalk paint and sanded it down.
I moved the Van Gogh print from the family room into the bathroom and installed a shelf that I had purchased about 2 years ago from Micheals. It was on clearance for $8.00, so I purchased 2 of them and they’ve been sitting in my storage space ever since. I simply stained it using a fast drying stain from Lowes. Now, my thrift store treasures can be nicely displayed on the shelf.
The greenery is from Home Goods and I found the brushed nickel jewelry holder at the clearance section at Target. I think it looks like a small piece of coral. I keep going back and forth about whether to paint it in coral. The glass oil jar was a steal for $1.00 at the thrift store. The gold sunburst mirror came in a set of three. This particular one had a missing spike and was sent to the thrift store where I picked all three up for $10.00. I think they are $15-20 at Target right now.
My favorite thrift find was the green glass candy dish. It was only $1.20. I absolutely love the combination of this green with the navy walls. I purchased this set of faux florals just today at Joann Fabrics. All spring home decor items are on sale for 40% off right now.
On the opposite wall, I simply updated the small table by adding some hardware. I picked up on the nickel finish here and kept the table distressed just like the mirror. A wire basket from Joann Fabrics (50% off regular price) and a boxwood arrangement ($20 at Target) in a ice bucket finish the table.
The art was updated to display my diy abstract art that was paired with the Monet replica. I think the colored stripes are pretty much in every blogger’s website now, but it just works in any room. I made an art piece with a “W5” to depict the 5 family members of my family. I came up with our family nickname 2 years ago while wrapping Christmas presents. My hand started hurting writing every family member’s name on every present. So, I started writing “W5” for the 5 Watkins family members and it has stuck with me.
So there you have it. My 30 day Room Makeover Challenge Powder Room.
