Not Your Momma’s Display Case: 3 Steps to Creating a Collection Vignette
Hola!
Think about the decor present in the house you grew up in.
Imagine yourself sitting in the living room or dining room. Are you there yet?
Now, look around the room. Is there a display of collectables?
Perhaps in a curio cabinet, high shelf, or maybe a display case that is hardly updated.
I remember all of my mother’s collections. She is an avid collector with multiple collections throughout her home. Her largest collection is of Swarovksy crystal figurines which she keeps in a glass curio cabinet. This is a very classic way of displaying your collections and definitely a good idea when you have small children. I broke one of her figurines before while playing with my sisters, sorry mom. Okay, maybe it was two. Super glue was my bestie back then. There are a lot of things super glued together that my parent’s probably haven’t realized even decades later.
Vignettes are a great way to showcase your collections. These small displays of grouped items can do wonders in a room. My dining room is currently getting refreshed for a post Christmas Winter look and a buffet table vignette was perfect for the room. Here is how you can create a vignette in only 3 steps!
When choosing pieces for your vignette, think about a theme that ties all the pieces together. I chose a color theme. Can you tell how much I love blue and white porcelain? Haha. This actually isn’t even my entire collection! Most of the time, a collection is already related with a theme so this step is the easiest.
Add a variety of levels using your collection items with different heights or simply propping items up on cake stands. If you don’t have a cake stand, use inverted bowls to prop up items toward the back of your vignette. You can’t even tell that one of the vases in my vignette is sitting on top of a bowl.
Your collection will pop when mixed with a few other items. Candlesticks, flowers or greenery, fruit, and even domes can really make your vignette stand out. Try incorporating a variety of textures and finishes as well. Feathers and fresh eucalyptus leaves look great for an after Christmas vignette.
See how easy it is to style a vignette! Now, get those items out of the curio cabinet and display cases and start styling your mantels and shelves with collection vignettes. I bet you can whip one up this weekend. When you have your collection vignette set up, snap a pic and share on instagram. Be sure to tag me (@casawatkins) to your photo so that I can see. Which collection would you make a vignette with? Share with me in the comments.
Thanks for stopping by my casa.
