How To Makeover a Thrift Store Wreath for $5 Dollars

However, I will say that a makeover was needed since I did get into a slump after the kids were born. Since then, I have made extra efforts to take some time for myself and to continue to look just as good on the outside as I do on the inside. Sometimes you can take your spouse for granted and forget that you should try to keep your spouse interested. We became so busy that we even stopped doing date nights. Note to self: Have a date night on Friday…ooooo maybe go see age of Adaline??!!
Anyway, to continue this theme of makeovers from this past week, I thought that I’d share a thrift store wreath makeover. You may have passed by one of these ugly duckling wreaths at a thrift store or yard sale. Don’t overlook them! A typical large grape vine wreath of this thickness can run $20-$40. I swiped this wreath for $5 at the thrift store and was able to give it a facelift with a few supplies from the dollar section at Target.
I always check out the dollar section when I go to Target. You’d be amazed at the things they have there. I picked up two packs of cream colored burlap ribbon to mend some of the delicate areas of the wreath. I also spotted these glittered numbers that would be great to use for my address. They were apparently out of the number “1” and “5” but lo and behold there was a banner right next to it with “2015”. My total cost from Target was $5!
The burlap ribbon was wrapped tightly around the wreath to keep any loose parts from coming apart. This wreath has seen better days, but it still has years left to be marveled. Use any Spring faux flowers you have on hand. If you don’t have any around, you can buy flowers from a local craft store (many are having sales on Spring florals right now) or from a local dollar store. I loved how great the yellow daffodils from Micheals looked on my Easter tablescape, so I decided to use them for the wreath.
Use your wire cutters to snip the flower from the stem and insert the flower between the vines of the wreath. You can use floral wire to hold them in place. Mine stayed pretty put without it. Insert the remaining flowers making sure you alternate the direction in which you are inserting them. Alternating the direction helps with the overall appeal. You do not want all the flowers to be facing the same direction. I used a total of three bundles of flowers.
Use a glue gun to adhere your address numbers. I decided to use some of the flowers to peek through the holes of the banner numbers. You could also use the holes to hang the numbers from the wreath.
I like how the peek-a-boo flowers on the numbers make the wreath look as though its blooming flowers. Now just hang up your made-over wreath and enjoy!
Not to shabby, huh?! Next time when you see a not so pretty wreath, take it home and give it a facelift.
