How To Make A Pottery Barn Inspired Bud Vase from Ornaments, a Magazine Holder, and Straws
Hola!
Imagine having three items in front of you, a wooden magazine holder, a pack of straws, and a set of 6 clear orb ornaments. Cue the MacGyver theme music! Now, create a holiday display using all three items. What would you make?
That was the mini challenge I proposed to my blogger friends. April from Uncookie Cutter and Stephanie from One Mile Home Style took on the challenge. Be sure to stop over to their blog to view the details of their projects.
As for me, I’m pretty pleased with what I came up with. I didn’t have a clue what I was going to make until this past Saturday. Though, my first idea didn’t work out entirely I am still thrilled with my results.
The ornament multi bud vase rack was inspired by a bud vase I saw on the Pottery Barn website. I don’t believe they carry these anymore, since I wasn’t able to find them on their website.
To start, I spray painted the rack and 5 straws with black paint. Then, I used floral wire to thread a few of the straws to make a guard rail for the bottom rack ornament bud vases. The straw guard rail is definitely needed to hold the ornaments upward and prevent them from rolling off the mantel. Just tie the ends of the wire to each side of the magazine rack.
The rack was looking too dark, so I added some left over stud trim on each side. I’m still deciding if I should have the trim continuing on the bottom. For now, I love the bits on the side for a nice touch of gold.
Finish by adding one ornament (with the hanging wire removed) to each slot of the magazine rack and add a couple more on the bottom shelf. I placed some fresh greenery and roses from my garden.
What do you think you’d come up with if given the same three items? If you are up for the challenge, I’d love to see what you come up with. Snap a picture of your display and tag me @casawatkins on Instagram.
Thanks so much for stopping by my casa. Be sure to pin this post to remember it and stop by Uncookie Cutter and One Mile Homestyle to see what these two creative bloggers have made.
