Help, I need somebody….Help, Not just anybody: One Room Challenge Week 3
OMG, what have I done!! This week is epitomized by the Beatles song, Help. I typically edit my posts to be a bit more refined. Today, I need to level with you and put it all out there. I have bitten off WAY more than I thought with my one room challenge room. I am still very excited about the room, but my eyes have been wandering this week and that has led to second thoughts on a lot of projects. I’m going to need your help to get me focused again. If you haven’t see my first first on with my design plans catch up here. Then read last week’s post with my new additions and inspirations available here.
I saw this room and now I’m thinking of having patterned drapes instead of solids. Plus, I love the mis-matched chairs.

Then I saw this room, and thought perhaps I should paint an accent wall with a solid blue color. There is plenty of paint left from my powder room makeover. This room is gorgeous, but my living room is much smaller and the dark wall would probably make the room look smaller.

So, here are my issues and what has caused me the most stress this week.
First issue: A New Baker Coffee Table Is Not Happening!
I have been on the hunt for a baker coffee table and they are all going to cost me two legs and an arm. Craigslist and swap sites have been a bust and I can’t bring myself to spending $1,000 on a gorgeous coffee table. I found this one on Craigslist, but alas I can’t bring myself to pay the asking price just yet since we are also finishing our basement. Why are we doing two spaces you ask; because, I apparently I like to be under constant stress.
I have an idea to use one of the tables in my basement and give it a makeover. Though, I really would like to see a glass tabletop instead of the stone. Here is the table in my basement. I apologize for the poor picture. I was snapping pictures of my secret furniture warehouse in my basement hoping to find some sort of inspiration.
The base of the table is really nice and with a coat of gold spray paint…or hammered brown can really make a difference in the room. The table truly has the potential of becoming something similar to a baker table. I would die of happiness if I find a tray top or glass tabletop with a rim. I’m thinking something similar to this table from One Kings Lane.
The other idea would be to update the existing table with paint and possibly a new glass tabletop. Here is the before picture from week 1.
It is a beautiful table, but simply to bulky for the space. I did find that the bottom ornate piece from all four sides does remove. So, I could simply remove those and possibly paint the table?
Perhaps I could transform the table into one similar to this table.
Second Issue: To Paint or Not to Paint the Thrifted Chair
I shared the chair found on a swap site last week and it is still waiting to be painted or recovered. I can’t decide whether to paint the fabric a popping color and leave the wood dark. Or, recover the fabric and take a crack at reupholstering a chair. I have never tried to reupholster a full chair. Seat cushions are simple, but an entire chair is intimidating.
I originally thought of a large Ikat print, but my feelings changed after placing the new rug in the room. If the chair is reupholstered, it would definitely need a smaller print. Here a a few inspirational chairs from One Kings Lane that were on my mind this week.
Thanks so much for stopping by my casa. I’d love your input on my two design dilemmas! To recap, I’m unsure whether to revamp the existing coffee table or revamp the table in my basement. I also need your input on whether to paint or recover my new-to-me swap chair.
As always, Regressan Pronto!
