DIY Watercolor Cactus Notecards
Bring back the art of a good notecard with these simple diy watercolor cactus notecards!
I was talking to a girlfriend of mine recently about how giddy my kids get when they receive a letter in the mail. It’s like they’ve won the lottery when they hear they got any piece of mail! Getting letters and notecards make me happy too. When is the last time you’ve written a “just to say hi” note card? I used to love whipping out my stationary set and sending out notecards to friends and family; but I have to admit it’s been a while. Spring is a great time to catch up with loved ones, especially if you forgot to send out that stack of holiday cards still sitting on your desk like me.
These diy watercolor cactus notecards are easy to make and can rekindle the fun of sending notecards. Replicate the process on an envelope to create your own diy stationery set!
Start by preparing your watercolor. You don’t have to buy watercolor paint if you don’t have any. Just use acrylic paint diluted with water. I used a few different shades of green and a pop of yellow for my watercolor cactus.
Use the light shade of green to create a large oval for the body of the cactus. Add dimension with the darker shades of green and highlights with the yellow. Add more oval shapes to make different species of cacti and small oblong shapes for the little cactus flowers. I used yellow for the cactus flowers, but you can also use shades of pink or orange. Once the watercolor is dry, use a black marker to add the cactus shape and needles.
Need an idea of what to write? How about using these diy watercolor cactus notecards to invite a friend for lunch, playdates for kids, or just to say you’re thinking of a friend. Write a sweet note to a friend or family and send it on its way!
