To kick off the DIY Wall Art Blog Hop, I am sharing how I transformed an old doily, a paper plate, and a cabinet knob into this faux medallion art piece.

Wall medallions have become a trendy and chic home decor piece.  Medallions are great accent pieces and can be used in almost any type of decor style.  Whether you love french farmhouse style or love chic boho decor, medallions can be a great way to add some vintage flair.

I was determined to find a used chandelier medallion to transform into a wall piece.  Unfortunately, there were none available at the thrift stores I visited.  So, I decided to make one of my own.  This project did not cost me a single penny and may not cost you anything as well.  Your medallion will require a paper plate, a lacy doily, and a cabinet knob all of which can be found in your home already.

You will first need to glue your doily to your paper plate.  As a note, I recommend that you spray paint the plate prior to attaching the doily.  Spray adhesive is great for this project since you can spray the small lace crevices with glue.  Press your doily unto the bottom side of the paper plate very gently.  You do not want to flatten the plate in the process of attaching the doily.

Make a small opening in the middle of the plate so that the door knob can enter.  You can insert a pen to make the opening slightly larger.  Don’t make the hole too big or the knob will not be snug.  Use your scissors to trim any excess pieces of the doily from the edge of the plate.

The medallion can be painted in any color you prefer.  I used a gold spray paint that I already had on hand and applied 2 coats.  I also used some metallic gold paint placed in some random areas for more brilliance.   I mentioned before that you should spray the plate prior to adhering the doily.  This will help keep the color of the medallion should the doily shift.

A framed medallion looks very chic and can be paired with a bold backdrop.  I chose this black and white chevron stripe and used the spray adhesive to glue the fabric to the back of the frame.

Finally, use your glue gun to adhere the plate to your backdrop and reassemble the frame. The beauty of this DIY doily medallion is that it can be hung on the wall or propped up on a shelf.

Thank you for stopping by my casa!
