Hola!
Have you noticed all the plaid home accents? I don’t think you can walk in any store right now and NOT see any plaid. Plaid is often associated with the fall season and this trendy pattern is a top choice for good reason. The best thing about plaid is the variety of color combinations and how dramatic the pattern can change with varying linear lines.
Sara, from Shabby Grace Blog hosted this month’s Create and Share. 9 bloggers were asked to create a new look for an unfinished wooden tray from Amazon. The tray was around $8.00 (find it here) and was the perfect size to try out my project.
I came across an amazing plaid fabric the other day at Joann Fabrics and adore it. I love the gray mixed with orange. Of course knowing that we have this tray to makeover, I knew I wanted to cover it with the amazing fabric.
The process was pretty easy. You’ll need to use either a spray adhesive and/or a glue gun. The glue gun was great to use for the corners. Start by laying your fabric and centering your tray underneath. Gently life the fabric in one corner and apply your glue to the seam of the wood tray. Press your fabric into the corner making sure not to make wrinkles. Then, make a slit from the corner of the fabric up to the tray on all four corners of the fabric. You will be basically using the same process of mitered corners as you would wrapping a gift.
Be sure to pull the fabric tight over the handles of the tray. I opted to cover the handles, but you could wrap the fabric around the handles if you rather they show.
I am big on straight lines. It did take just a few minutes to make sure the tray had the plaid lines straight. This is why you want to glue the inner edges of the tray first so that your fabric does not shift when you glue the corners and back down.
The tray is the right size for a great night time tea or coffee during my mommy time. However, it is just as great as an accent to your fall table.
