DIY Sea Urchin Pen Holder from Vase Filler
Hola!
Every week, I love to share a 5 minute project that is great for the home. I find myself having a lot of things in the house lately and I decided to start recycling previous projects that I am no longer using. My hubs would probably prefer that I just got rid of them, but why trash them when we can make something new?! I recycled the sea urchin vase fillers from my coastal wall art to make a cute DIY sea urchin pen holder! The sea urchin pen holder is somewhat reminiscent of those DIY pom pom projects seen everywhere on pinterest. Here is how you can make your own DIY sea urchin pen holder from vase fillers and check out some of my favorite blogger pom-pom projects at the end of this post!
The vase fillers were purchased from Target and have quite a bit of them in a box. I used a couple of them to make a Dot & Bo inspired sea urchin faux succulent vase. Since each urchin is open at the top and bottom, you’ll need to close one side so that the pen will not fall out. Cut a small circle out of heavy cardstock and use a glue gun to attach it to the one side of the urchin.
Attach another urchin to the top of the urchin base with your glue gun as well. Be sure to have the holes align so that the pen can be easily placed inside. Select your colors and dab the urchin bumps with your paint. I used 3 vibrant acrylic paints for a bright spring look.
See, doesn’t it look like mini pom poms?! This would make a great gift as well, perhaps for Mother’s day! I would pair it with a cute pom pom pen like the one Dena of Hearts and Sharts made. My mother prefers handmade gifts any day over store bought jewelry. You could also pair your DIY sea urchin pen holder with a set of notecards.
Thanks for stopping by my casa today! Be sure to pin this post to your DIY craft or DIY gift board on Pinterest! Love the look of pom poms? Check out these awesome DIY pom pom projects you can do and gift as well!

This is so cute…It is like one of those pencil holders you only see in an office but a bit more whimsy.
