Hola!

It’s my favorite time of the month again, Create and Share Challenge time!  This month, bloggers were challenged to create and/or revamp a lamp for a fun lampalooza event.  The lamp projects shared today are incredibly creative and are sure to add character to a room.  Be sure to visit each project post and pin to your Home DIY pinterest board.  As for me,  I have been looking to give the bronze lamps in my family room a much needed makeover.  I had so much fun creating the DIY mud cloth lamps and they are my favorite project thus far!

I had originally considered painting the entire lamp base to a fun color like orange.  Then, I realized I may have some color clashes whenever I changed the pillows.  I did find that not only was the DIY mud cloth design easy to create, but also added a global appeal to my end table decor that would go with any color.  Problem solved!  Mud cloth is traditionally dark tinted fabric, but the detailing can be recreated on any base color lamp.  Best part, you can have this new look in minutes!

The lamps were given a really good clean and I even used Goo gone to remove any additional residue.  Then, I used my handy dandy, super dooper, top secret tool…A Paint Sharpie to place the design on the lamp!  Oh yes, a Sharpie pen is the best kept secret for DIY bloggers.  Just type in sharpie projects in google and see.  As a matter of fact, I also have a DIY Kate Spade pencil holder (which just so happens to be the first ever Create and Share Challenge) which also utilized a sharpie.  Click here to purchase a set of paint Sharpies and have it shipped straight to your home with Amazon.

After you have your lamp base prepped, turn on the tunes and just go doodling away.  You may be able to hear 1 entire song before you finish your lamp!  I used a series of lines, the letter E and W, as well as arrows.  If you are stumped, check out some mud cloth products at the end of this post for some inspiration.

I opted to leave some of the lamp uncovered.  If you have a space full of patterns and colors like I do, you probably want to do the same.  This offers the eyes a resting place and also makes for a smoother incorporation of other patterns into the room.

There is no way to mess this up amigos.  Mud cloths are handmade and are not 100% perfect.  So you don’t need to be either!  That’s probably why this is my favorite project: A quick DIY makeover that I can mess up and be a-okay.

Do you have a lamp that needs a makeover?  Where is it located and what kind of makeover do you want to give it?  Feel free to share in the comments and be sure to check out the other lamp projects shared today.  I’m truly amazed at these lamps!  Oh, and don’t forget to pin any of the pictures in this DIY mud cloth lamp makeover to your DIY Pinterest board!

    1. It sure would Debbie! I would be sure to use a dark color on the brass first to make a contrasting look. Perhaps a black spray paint or a dark blue. Then use your white paint pen for the mud cloth details. Or, if you’d prefer to keep the brass look, I would be sure to lightly sand the areas you plan to use the paint pen on. This will prevent the paint from peeling off easily.

  1. I love paint pens and Sharpies are one of my favorites. This is such a great way to easily makeover a lamp and makes me want to draw all over my glass lamps 🙂
