DIY Folk Art Birds
These DIY folk art birds will have you feeling like spring is just around the corner!
Last weekend I was really hoping to get in some much needed sleep in time, but the birds that nest right at our bedroom window had another idea in mind. Their chirping and movements woke me up immediately and also signaled that spring is right around the corner. We constantly have birds nesting behind the window shutters of our bedroom window. I always say its prime real estate since several birds will fight for that one spot. Well, today I’m sharing these diy folk art birds inspired by those chirpy birds at our window and global folk art.
I love these colorful diy folk art birds and they come just in time for my bye bye winter… hello spring… decorating!
DIY Painted Folk Art Birds
I spotted these wooden laser cut birds in Joann Fabrics and had to take them home with me. Their tails were especially interesting and perfect for a bit of whimsy.
Here’s how to make your own set of diy folk art birds.Apply two coats of colorful paint to each bird. I added some DecoArt heavy gel medium to thicken the paint a little. This is a great step to take if you’re painting unfinished wood. I’ve had times where the paint simply soaks into the wood and doesn’t darken even with 3-4 coats!
Use white acrylic paint and a small brush to add the details. I also used the tip of the brush handle to add dots. It’s much easier to dot with the handle tip than the brush.
Add ribbon or bakers twine to your cute diy folk art birds and hang in your home. You can also nix the ribbon and use them as pretty place settings for your spring tablescape.
I have another idea for them, but I’m thinking of sharing that that next week for A Very Global Easter! Be sure you join me and Kathy of Up To Date Interiors for 7 days of globally inspired ideas starting on Monday!
These are so cute. I need to get back to Joanns. There’s one right around the corner!
