Hola!
The thrifty makeovers continue friends. I’ve been clearing out the hoard room and transforming my thrifted items into useable pieces. One of the things I’ve had for a while was a perfume bottle shaped like a bust sculpture. This little bust statue reminded me of those stylish busts seen on mantels and shelves. I was waiting for inspiration on how to use the bust to strike when I came across Plaid Painted Finishes in concrete and moss. These painted on textured paint create the look of concrete, moss, and they even have one for rust! I could have stopped at painting the bust with the concrete paint, but I was feeling the outdoors this weekend and decided to give it a bit of French garden flair. You can easily recreate this DIY faux concrete and moss jewelry holder with any statue or figurine.
What You Need:
- Figurine or statue
- Plaid Painted Finishes Light Concrete
- Plaid Painted Finishes Light Moss
- Plaid Painted Finishes Dark Moss
- Paint brushes
The faux concrete paint was very easy to use. The paint has additives to make the grainy appearance of concrete. Definitely shake up the bottle before use. There is a light and dark colored concrete paint, but I decided to stay with the light since I would use the faux moss paint on top.
I applied 1 coat of the Painted Finishes concrete paint and allowed to dry before applying the dark moss paint. Use the lighter moss paint to add highlights. This creates depth to the moss as well. Allow to dry completely before using. The cute bust statue was the perfect size for my jewelry bracelets, but you can easily use it on a mantle, shelf, or hostess gift! Imagine a set of these faux concrete and moss figurines in a table setting!
What do you think? You can also use the same technique for other items in your home. I’m thinking this would be great to makeover some old planters I have! Sounds like I know what I’ll be doing during the kids nap time this week. Loved this tutorial? I welcome you to pin it to your DIY project board and share with your friends!
Oh, she’s stunning Steph!! I love the concrete and moss look on her. Beautiful styling and pictures.
Thanks so much Kathy! I know how much you love your own bust sculpture! 🙂
This project came out so cute, Stephanie. You’re right, the moss looks so realistic! Can’t believe it’s paint.
