DIY Chalkboard Cup Parking Lot
Hi and happy Monday!
I wasn’t feeling too good this weekend. I spent the practically the entire Sunday laying in bed. I’m feeling so much better and ready to tackle this week’s activities. I started cleaning and tidying up around the house and noticed an array of cups all over the house.
I found kids cups in the toy bins, glasses on the table, and other places other than the sink. I don’t know if this happens in your house, but when I try to put these cups in the dishwasher I get, “I’m still using that!” Or, “Why did you put that in the dishwasher, I wasn’t finished!” I came up with a solution during my thrift shopping today.
I spotted this little shelf that was perfect for a Cup Parking Lot. I also spotted this bagel slicer which I have plans for.
I debated whether to paint the legs a different color, but loved how the wood looked with the black paint. I cleaned the remaining parts of the shelf with some diluted Murphy Oil. If you are not familiar with this wood cleaner, it is a MUST if you have hardwood floors or any large wooden furniture pieces. I use this on my floors and they always look so brilliant. It’s a vegetable oil based cleanser, so it doesn’t have that harsh cleanser smell.
Here is a picture of the wood with and without the Murphy Oil.
Doesn’t it look shiny? Imagine this shine on your hardwood floors!
Once your chalkboard paint is dry, you can use some chalk to write the name of your family members. Now your family members can place their cups on the parking lot when they want to use it again. I placed the cup parking lot by the sink as a visual reminder to have the cups placed in the sink when they are no longer needed. I have a feeling I need a stronger reminder, lol.
Do you think you need a chalkboard cup parking lot in your house? If you can’t find a shelf similar to this, you can always use a small slab of wood or tray from the dollar store.
