Colorful Basement Office Reveal

My new colorful basement office reveal is here! The One Room Challenge is done and my new creative space is filled with color and patterns.

colorful basement office renovation reveal

After weeks of working on this basement office, I finally have created a colorful creative space…. or mom cave … and I’m loving every bit of it. As a reminder, this basement space used to be my husband’s barely used office. It had a water leak so he used it even less. So, I did what anyone would do… took it for myself! Here’s what it looked like before.

After installing luxury vinyl flooring on week 1 and applying the stunning Kitty Mccall floral wallpaper from Milton and King, the room was ready for some colorful touches. The tutorial for installing wallpaper on a ceiling will be coming your way soon. In the meantime, take a look at this colorfilled wallpaper! I also used some leftover paper to wallpaper an old dresser.

I will say that the wallpaper was much easier to install with Milton and King‘s signature paste the paper. I had a very good experience with it in my wallpapered dining room, so I wasn’t scared about using their wallpaper again for the office. I don’t know if I could have done it myself with any other wallpaper. Be sure to check out their amazing line of wallpaper! Plus, there are more prints available in the Kitty McCall collection!

I bought a couple of shelves from Ikea to help with the storage issues I was having, plus it calms the eye from all the colors in the room. The desk and cabinets are from my previous office and just reused.

The painted mural was a last minute addition that I truly love! Did you see me post the process on Instagram? I used the Behr 2020 paint trend line to create this geometric mural across the access panels. I also used a similar design on the water panel. Why cover the panels when you can make it all into art?! I love how the orange in the art is picked up by the stunning batik goldenrod pillow from Spoonflower/Roostery!

I gave the cabinets a much needed makeover with these amazing brass furniture legs from Pretty Pegs. They were super easy to install and elevates the cabinets several notches! Pretty Pegs have several different designs and colors that you have to check out ASAP. The Greta brass legs make these plain cabinets look much more expensive. Do you have a piece of furniture that could benefit from a quick makeover too?

Speaking of making over furniture, I also covered an old chair with this amazing Inca inspired fabric from Spoonflower. I ordered the fabric in their durable cypress cotton canvas fabric to reupholster the chair. To think I almost donated this chair and all it needed was a bohemian fabric makeover!

You can get lost in all the fabric choices on Spoonflower‘s website, but the line from Vagabond Folk Art was my favorite. I even ordered this awesome orange lumbar pillow (batik mosaic print in goldenrod fabric) from the same designer! Don’t sew? Not to worry! I’ll be sharing how I covered this chair and used a source you may not have thought about to reupholster this chair soon.

I shopped my home for most of the art in this space, but one of the best new pieces has been the hanging brass art by Vida and Luz. Having these artful pieces in my own creative space was such a treat! Not only am I getting inspiration energy from these brass hangings, but they bring a beautiful flickering of light into the room.

I added a brass ring to the sun salutations brass piece to make it hanging slightly lower than the true north piece that has the triangle center. Though, I’m planning to move one to the wall near my desk once I receive some other art being delivered soon.
