5 Cheap Decoration Ideas For A Kid’s Birthday Party
Here are some super cheap decoration ideas for a kid’s birthday party! These are definitely helpful for the super busy parent and/or those of us that like to be “crafty” with decor!
We just finished up Nugget’s 8th birthday this weekend! I simply can’t wrap my head around the fact that he is 8. Next up is Chi-Chi’s 7th birthday party just after Thanksgiving. She still hasn’t finalized her theme yet, but she’s thinking Captain Marvel. I’ll be getting my thinking hat on for that soon enough.
Nugget was a little easier to plan out and get crafty with. He wanted a Super Mario/Nintendo party and so that’s what he got. It was easy to create some affordable and cheap birthday party decoration ideas for this theme, but honestly these ideas can apply to almost any theme.
Affordable Kid’s Birthday Party Decoration Ideas
I unfortunately took a bit long to get ready the day of the party, so I wasn’t able to snap as many pictures as I’d like. I was able to get a few of the decorating ideas that I want to share with you. So here we go!
Tip 1. Use toys as decoration!
Decorating with toys that fit the party theme is a sure way to save money on party decor. I don’t think I’ve ever had a party theme that wasn’t based on whatever cartoon or movie the kid’s were into at the time. Needlesstosay, that means that we had loads of toys to use as decor.
Tip 2. Personalize with homemade labels
Making your own water bottle labels or goody box labels are as easy as loading a Word document. Simply create your own design and copy and paste as many labels as you can fit on the page. You may find free themed labels if you google it as well! I created these labels in an afternoon and simply adhered them to the box/bottle.
Tip 3. Repurpose before you toss out that trash!
One of the most creative ways I’ve decorated for birthday parties is to repurpose boxes and package wrappers for decor. Cutting out the characters from snack boxes make easy framed art!
You can also snip out some of the package wrapping from the party napkins, plates, or store decorations and use it to make cute accents for party containers. Check out those cute cut outs I made from the party balloon packaging on the ribbon wrapped glasses!
Tip 4. Purchase cute themed rings for cupcake toppers.
Depending on the age of the birthday kid, you may be able to bake your own cupcakes and use affordable themed party rings as cupcake toppers. Not only do you get a tasty treat, but a party favor too!
Tip 5. Wrap your own party snacks!
Do you know just how much stores upcharge pre-packaged snacks versus a bulk package? It’s such a big difference, especially when you are purchasing snacks for a large number of party guests. Instead, purchase clear cookie wrappers and pack your own snacks from the bulk package. Use stickers with the party theme to seal the wrapper. These oreo cookies look fabulous as individually wrapped goodies!
