Bright and Sunny Yellow Dining Room
Thank you to The Home Depot for sponsoring this post!
Creating a complete dining room makeover for my parents’ was such a fun experience and they couldn’t have been happier with the results. I teamed up with The Home Depot to create a bright and sunny yellow dining room just in time for my parents’ wedding anniversary.
My parents’ have lived in their home for 27 years and haven’t refreshed much in their home. I think they would rather spend their time traveling and enjoying retirement at this point. The house looks pretty much just as it did when I was a teen….vintage furniture and all. So, I was happy to partner with The Home Depot and give them a refresh of their dining room while they were out of town!
Operation While You Were Out
Apart from the kitchen, the dining room is the most popular gathering place in my parents’ home. From dinner parties to family celebrations, the dining room is the place to host it all. Unfortunately, it’s not too accommodating for all the family we have. We always need to bring in another table to fit more people and since the dining room doesn’t have a buffet, we also end up having to serve our food in the kitchen then bring it into the dining room.
I should add that my parents’ are neat hoarders. They don’t have a messy home at all, it’s just that they keep outdated items they’ve collected throughout their years together and adopt almost all the furniture that anyone tries to donate. For example, they have used a broken old wood encased television as a console table for decades. Why? I’m not sure!
They also have a few pieces of starter furniture that my sisters and I have offloaded when we moved from our apartments. It’s far from a hoarder house you see on tv, but there are so many items that can be donated to make room for furniture pieces that work in their home and are in their style. Needless to say, the dining room was in need of a BIG refresh so I went to work to pull off this secret room transformation as a gift for their wedding anniversary.
Marrying two styles of decor
For this transformation, I wanted to be sure to merge both parents’ decor styles. My mother loves the color yellow for her home and prefers a farmhouse/cottage design style. On the other hand, my father loves a more colorful space in what I would describe as hacienda island style.
So I decided to stay in the yellow palette for the dining room, but amp up the vibrancy to create a refreshed global farmhouse style dining room that ties in my mom’s love of farmhouse style and my father’s love of vibrant island vibes. I found everything I needed for this room transformation at The Home Depot.
I love that I have decor and furniture for all decor styles available to order from The Home Depot. From paint to decor, The Home Depot was the one stop shop I needed to complete this room refresh in just a few days after all items were delivered. After painting the dining room the perfect shade of yellow, Plantain Chip by Behr, and the lower part of the wall Winter White by Behr I started bringing in the decor!
Bright yellow global farmhouse dining room
The dining room is now a gorgeous shade of yellow and a beautiful mix of cottage-core/farmhouse and global hacienda/island vibes. I shopped at The Home Depot to update their dining set and buffet, add a new rug, swap out the lighting, and finish the room with amazing decor.
Everything was delivered directly to their home using home delivery by The Home Depot and I was able to decorate the dining room while they were out of town! Check out their reaction to the room reveal on my latest Reel.
The seating issue is now resolved with a new Home Decorators Collection Eldridge dining table that can expand to fit 10 people! The super comfy upholstered dining chairs work for the cottage-core vibes and look so pretty with the new table. The new buffet table complements the dining table and now we can serve meals right in the dining room.
A sisal rug added texture to the room and helped contrast the bright yellow walls. Can you believe that this is the first rug in this room EVER?! Adding an area rug to any space can instantly add warmth. Another way to add warmth to a space is lighting. The new shade chandelier casts the warmest glow to the room. Its bright light is diffused through the shade to create a welcoming dining room.
Global Style Dining Room Decor
One of my favorite pieces in the dining room is the gorgeous cane mirror! I just adore the texture of the mirror and the black metal trim. Such a stylish boho touch and I’m definitely sold on getting one for my home too. Blue frames filled with family photos surround the mirror for a personalized room.
Speaking of boho touches, the new curtains hung on the bronze curtain rod add a beautiful global inspired print into the room. I also added a stunning oil painting that completely encapsulates the hacienda like vibe of the room. I want to dive right into this painted scene!
I couldn’t finish the dining room without a new set of dinnerware and flatware. This Italian inspired stoneware dinnerware set, appetizer plate, and pitcher with the farmhouse style green cutlery and napkins are perfection in this colorful dining room. A few decor pieces like an artichoke vase with beautiful spring florals, the talavera pot with a pretty plant, and wood lantern with a cute plant add the perfect spring touches. Can’t forget about some metallics! A set of brass monkey candle holders add a little tropical whimsy.
I had such a sweet time showing off this new dining room to my parents. They were so happy to see the transformation and excited to host their next event in their new global farmhouse style dining room.
