DIY Succulent Garden Dry Erase Board: Create and Share Challenge

Hola,
It’s Create and Share Challenge day here at Casa Watkins!  I was blown away by all the creativity behind this month’s Walnut Hollow challenge.  Walnut Hollow, a leading manufacturer of wood products,  Walnut Hollow has so many great products for crafting and provided each of the 29 participants with either a pallet tray, basswood slab, or round clock.  Be sure to check out the brilliant projects shared by the other participants.  I opted to transform my pallet tray into a succulent garden dry erase message board.  Here is how you can make one for yourself!

This post is brought to you by Casa Watkins in collaboration with Walnut Hollow.  Though I was not compensated, I did receive product from Walnut Hollow. All opinions and thoughts are mine alone.

You’ll need to have the Walnut Hollow pallet tray, which you can now order on sale until the 31st.   I stained the tray with a quick drying stain and let it dry per stain instructions.

While the tray dried, I took a printed notes page which I designed myself.  You can also frame a simple white sheet if you’d like.  Remove the back stand from the picture frame and glue the frame onto the dried tray with a glue gun.

I made a holder for the dry erase markers using a baby food jar which was wrapped with jute rope and engraved.  If you are new here, then you probably don’t know that I have a small addiction to my engraver pen and have engraved a few projects which you can see here, here, and here.

Now the fun stuff!  The craft store was having a big sale on spring florals, so I bought up a slew of greenery and succulents.  I used my glue gun to adhere pieces of each type of greenery onto the tray.  I added another baby food jar wrapped with jute rope as a mini succulent planter.  What can I say?  I need to get rid of all these saved baby food jars, but don’t they look great?!

Add as much or as little greenery to your tray.  Tip:  If you want hints of the greenery, pull off some of the leaves from the base of the stem adhere individual pieces directly onto the tray.  Layer the greenery to achieve a full look.

Continue to layer your succulents and greenery until you’re satisfied with the look of your succulent garden.  Then, attach picture hanging saw tooth bracket onto the back of the tray and hang!

Thanks so much for stopping by my casa today!  Don’t forget to head over to my friends’ blogs and see their creative projects.
