Family Room Refresh Reveal: New Year New Room Refresh Challenge

Hola!
The day has come and I get to show you all my family room!  Just 4 weeks ago, I decided that I would refresh my family room to give it a new look for the New Year.  You can read about each week’s progress to catch up (week 1, week 2, and week 3).  Here is what the room looked like before.

After 4 weeks of much needed updates, here is my family room today.
I am so thrilled with the results and better yet, so is the family.  I was able to make the room look bigger and much brighter by changing the rug with a larger, printed rug by RugsUSA.  Then, I gave character to my dark Ikea computer station by aging it and repurposing it into an entertainment center.  The process is still underway, so keep in touch to see the evolution of global cabinet.

AFTER:
There are still a few little projects that I’d like to do for the room, but I realized that I didn’t have to complete an entire overhaul.  I just wanted the room to be a visual representation of how much we have grown in the last year, as well as where we hope to go.
I’d like to increase our family time by playing games, watching more movies together, and the room should also be a place where the kids can do their homework.  I’m still waiting on a few more ordered pieces that unfortunately have not arrived, but the transformation up to now has been received very well.

I incorporated some nifty global table accessories like this cute magnifying glass turtle.  I’ve been wanting to use a magnifying glass for my table, but honestly I kept thinking my kids would pick it right up and play with it and worse, break it.   So, when I saw this turtle magnifying glass by eyes popped!  Perfect accessory to get the style and still be kid friendly.

The gallery wall was updated with beautiful artwork from Minted and a framed Instagram photo from Framebridge.  I also added some of my own artwork and prints like my family name periodic table printable.  Many of the frames were thrift store finds which I could simply add family photos to.

Of course, I had to add a bit of blue and white.  It was very easy to choose accessories to fit the new room after identifying what I wanted my colors of the year to be.  You can read all about my colors of the year here.

The fireplace has not been painted yet, but the white will do until I decide on a color.  Colorful accessories in my color scheme were selected to complement the Minted art leaning on the mantel shelf.

So, what do you think?

Thanks so much for taking the time to follow along this room refresh.  Don’t forget to head over my friend’s blogs to see how they have transformed their rooms too!
