A New Year and A New Room Refresh

Hola!
Today is the day amigos!  The first week of the New Year, New Room refresh challenge.  I am so excited to kick off the first New Year, New Room refresh challenge with 10 of my blogging friends.  So, here is the deal.  You know New Year is known as a time of transformation.  What better way to kick off the New Year than with a great refreshed room?!
Each participant selected a room that needed a bit of a transformation.  We partnered with a few brands to help us complete our challenge and you’ll be seeing those shared on each blog.  We have 3 weeks to refresh our space and at the end of the month, you will see all 11 spaces refreshed and liven for the new year.

I chose to transform my family room.  This is the heart of our home and also the space most neglected.  I keep trying to find a style that is kid friendly and still within my sense of style.  Here is how the room looked in the fall.

Our Needs:
We definitely need a bit more organization and storage for blankets, some toys, and my homeschooling supplies.  I am so happy to be partnering with LampsPlus to tackle some of these issues with me.
One of the most needed refreshes is the rug.  This red rug was a gift from my sister and wasn’t originally intended for the family room, but it somehow ended up in the family room and never left.  RugsUSA so kindly has offered to collaborate with me to update the rug and I am so thankful.
The gallery wall has been a struggle for me.  If I could have it my way, I’d cover the entire wall with artwork and photographs.  However, the kids are too young to have any glass items at their level and my husband thinks it will look too busy.  I selected some great artwork from Minted and a cute frame from Framebridge to bring some pizzaz to the gallery wall.  I’d also like to see a few other global inspired pieces incorporated throughout.
To keep me on track, I made a mock up of the room.  It’s not entirely the pieces I’d like to use, but it’s the vibe I’d love to see in the family room.
I have already started making purchases and here is what I’m thinking for the room.  The rug is a teal colored take on a traditional style rug with fun distressing called Avalon by Dynamic Rugs.  The artwork from Minted is a mix of abstract pieces that incorporate all the colors of the room.  They should be here any day now.  I can’t wait to see these lovelies in person.
I also want to be sure to incorporate some global accents like Spanish pottery, chinoiserie ginger vases, and perhaps a few more small eclectic accents.  I’ve been scoping LampsPlus for accents and they have a spectacular mirror that is perfect for the room.
Do you have a room you’re thinking of refreshing?  It’s always great to make a plan for the room, but inspiration photos can also keep you leveled and focused on the end result.  Here are my inspiration photos for my family room.
