A Non-Traditional Painted Pumpkin Pillow: Create and Share

I received complimentary product for this post.  All opinions and thoughts are still my own.
Hola!
After days off of blogging, I’m coming back with a great post for you!  It’s Create and Share day!  If you are new to Casa Watkins, the Create and Share DIY Challenge is a monthly blogger challenge were I invite my blogging friends to create a new project using the same item.  This month, I asked Cutting Edge Stencils to partner in the challenge and the results blew my mind!  Be sure to check out the other 15 DIY pillows and we also have a special treat.  Three lucky readers will win their choice of a stencil kit from Cutting Edge Stencils!  Be sure to enter the giveaway at the end of the post.

For my pillow project, I decided to make a non-traditional pumpkin.  Have you seen the teal pumpkins used during Halloween?  Not too long ago, the teal pumpkin was designated a new twist on the traditional pumpkin and used to designate homes that are safe for allergy sensitive children during trick-o-treating.  I plan on participating by placing teal pumpkins outside, but I also wanted to display my participation indoors as well.  My kids do not have any allergies, but as a mom and a nurse I can completely understand the need for safe trick-o-treating this Halloween.
Here is how you can make your own teal non-traditional painted pumpkin pillow using the pumpkin pillow kit from Cutting Edge Stencils.  The paint-a-pillow kit is absolutely awesome.  Not only is it easy to use, but everything comes ready to use.
I used the painting plate and roller brush to apply paint to the pillow cover.  The most important thing to remember is to blot or roll off any excess paint before rolling it on the pillow.  This will help reduce the bleeding of paint underneath the stencil.
The stencil brush was used to get in the smaller areas.  The pillow kit provides the brush!
For the stem, I diluted gold paint with a textile medium (2 parts paint and 1 part textile medium) and used the stencil brush to apply paint to the stem.  Pounce or dab the paint on the pillow cover using the brush.
The pillow looked great, but it needed a little sprucing.  I removed the pillow cover from the board and used fabric glue to adhere gold studs to the top of the pumpkin and voila!  The gold studs are really stickers from Micheal’s, but you can easily remove the sticky backing to add the glue.
How amazing does this pillow look?  I adore the color scheme of my family room pillows and my new non-traditional painted pumpkin pillow fits right in.
