Painted Plastic Dollar Store Easter Eggs

Hola!  Feliz Jueves!
We are preparing for snow yet again!  Regardless of the weather, these gold painted plastic Easter eggs are sure to make your Easter decor pop.  These dollar store plastic Easter eggs were painted gold and accented using lace stickers.  This is a great nap time project and easy to do.
I only wanted three eggs for this project, but the dollar store bag comes with so many more.  You can use all sorts of background colors to make a bundle of painted eggs.  How great would the eggs look in blue!  Or, you can make a mix of blue and gold painted eggs.
To get your painted easter eggs started, you will need: plastic easter eggs, gold acrylic paint, white chalk paint (not pictured), a set of floral removable stickers, and a paint brush.
You wont be able to paint the eggs with your gold paint to begin with.  You will need some sort of base for the gold paint, unless you are planning to do a good 10 coats of the gold paint.  The acrylic gold paint doesn’t cover the plastic all too well.  I used my fork egg holder to paint the eggs with two coats of white chalk paint that was mixed with a little gold paint.  I waited until it the first coat was dry, about 10 minutes, until I painted the next coat.
Afterward, I painted two coats of the gold acrylic paint.  These coats also dried pretty fast.  Use a glass to hold the forks up.  I used a glass sugar pourer that I picked up from the dollar store.  I bought it with intent to use it for another project.  Not sure yet how I will use it.
You can apply your stickers as soon as the eggs are dry.  These stickers were purchased from Micheal’s a while back. Though, I did see some very similar stickers in the dollar store the other day.  So, you could potentially make this entire project for $2.00.  I think I paid $2.00 (with a coupon) for the stickers at Micheal’s.
The stickers adhere pretty good to the eggs.  However, they have a little trouble sticking to the overly curvy parts of the eggs.  I suggest you press your stickers in firmly, but carefully so that you do not open the egg.  Here is a picture of the eggs with the stickers loosely applied.  This is fine if you want to make the eggs to have a lace applique look.
I decided to press the stickers a little more to make a smoother look.  You will have some bumps where the eggs have their lids connecting and remember that you have holes that already come in the egg.  I placed a sticker over the holes that were still visible.  The paint covered most of them.
I hope you enjoyed these fabulous painted plastic Easter eggs.  These are great egg decor for Easter, but they can also be used within your home during other times of the year just by changing the base color.  Imagine a red painted egg with these lace stickers for Christmas!
