Using Thrift Store Finds for a Cottage, Farmhouse Style Entryway

For this week’s Using Thrift Store Finds post, I decided to refresh the entryway to make it more cottage farmhouse, or farmhouse cottage whichever way you prefer.  My family and I attended a dinner party at the home of a member of our Bible study group last week. When I entered her home, I had one of those “I love it! Can I live here?” moments.

I loved the comfortable, homey feeling that exuded from her modern cottage home decor.  That’s when I realized that I was missing that comfortable, homey feeling from my own home.

Shouldn’t you enter your own home and say, “Wow! I live here.”

Clearly, I needed to make some changes.  One of the many reasons I wanted to start a blog was to journal the evolution of our home and to discover my design style.  I love the comfy couches in cottage style, the use of neutrals and chippy furniture in farmhouse style, the pops of color in modern style, and even the elegance of vintage pieces in french country style.  So, what style is that?? Modern Cottage French Farmhouse??  I don’t know what you would call that style, but I do know that I’m going to tie all those aspects together somehow.
This week I started my journey revamping my home by refreshing my entryway to portray my new style.  I used thrift store finds to make this new entryway seem more inviting and comfy.  I used the green accents for a pop of color alongside the neutral white and ivory colors.

I found two white ceramic pitchers at the thrift store for $2.50 each.  They were in great condition and just needed a little cleaning.  I balanced the white with some brass candlesticks, which I also purchased from the thrift store for $6.00.  I’m becoming obsessed with candlesticks lately.  I have candlesticks all over my valentine’s day fireplace mantle as well.  I kept the vintage green jewelry box which ties in the greenery from the white roses.

I finished the top of the table with an ivory birdcage (From Micheals) that I just tied with a burlap bow.  The bottom shelf just needed another matching basket and pillow.  I added a plaid blanket to tie in the blue from the picture frame.

NOW!

I love the overall look of the entryway now.  It has cottage and farmhouse styling, but with a modern twist.  I think the entryway looks more inviting now.  What do you think?  I’ll definitely be continuing this type of styling throughout the house.

Thanks for stopping by,
