Indian Inspired DIY Painted Caddy

Create a beautiful Indian inspired DIY painted caddy perfect for a diy hostess gift or an organizer for your kitchen and office!

Hand painted Indian home decor has been a long time favorite of mine.  I’ve purchased a few pieces over the last few years through World Market, and was inspired to create a hand painted item myself.  After rummaging through my basement, I came across a caddy I had purchased from Joann Fabrics a while ago.  It’s another farmhouse style item that I had planned to boho-fy.  I had fun creating my diy global style galvanized trays, so I knew the Indian inspired diy painted caddy would be a fun project too.

I have a few hand painted Indian decor pieces I used as inspiration for the diy caddy.  Each piece has bold colors with details made in white paint.  It is these details that make each decor piece unique and a wonderful home accent. You could apply this painting technique to any wooden surface, but be prepared to spend a good 15 minutes or more creating the details.  Though, I will say that the time and care taken creating the hand painted details make this painted project a truly special gift.

For this project, you’ll need a few different colors of acrylic paint.  I received a few sample bottles of acrylic paints from DecoArt a few weeks ago.  I found that the new and improved acrylic paint is a great consistency, true to color, and easy to work with should you need to take a break to deal with the kiddos.  I covered my paint tray with a bit of plastic wrap and was still good to use several hours later.

To start, paint on your graphic shapes using all of your paint colors.  Don’t worry if the color mixes at the paint seams since you’ll be detailing each section later with white paint.  You’ll want two coats to make the colors pop.

Once dry, use the back of the paint brush to apply your dotted details.  You can also use a small brush to make lines, leaves, or other linear details.  Use your own Indian hand painted decor pieces for inspiration to create your details or google images if you don’t have any just yet.

  1. I’ve been following you for awhile on Instagram and love it. I enjoy your pics and especially find it cool when I see an item in your decor that I have as well. Just fun I guess.
