DIY Mud Cloth Wood Christmas Trees

It’s Day 3 of A Very Global Christmas!  Today, Kathy of Up To Date Interiors and I are sharing DIY christmas decor.  I’m always surprised at the price of some Christmas decoration.  Many of the decor items I’d love to own are a bit on the expensive side.  So, I get super giddy when I can create decor that looks great for a fraction of the cost.  This year I wanted to create some wood Christmas tree decorations and found a set of raw wooden trees at Joann Fabrics that were perfect for this project.  It would be much easier (and probably more inexpensive) to cut the wood yourself or use scrap wood.  However, I’m not too lucky to have extra scrap wood lying around.  The DIY mud cloth wood Christmas trees are super easy to create and you can personalize the colors to fit your current Christmas theme.

I decided to use a teal, blue, and pink theme for Christmas this year and was able to score some paint to match the colors.  You can see how I incorporated this colors scheme in my boho living room tour and boho chic mantel.  Regardless of the colors you use, these DIY mud cloth wood Christmas trees can bring easy global style to your holiday decor.

Start your wood christmas tree decorations by painting each tree with two coats of paint.  I used acrylic paint to paint the trees and a paint marker for the designs.  Once the trees are dry, use a white paint pen to make your African mud cloth inspired patterns.

Have fun creating the pattern.  If you need some mud cloth inspiration, you can check out my diy mud cloth lamp makeover or google mud cloth patterns to inspire your own tree look.  I seriously adore how these trees came out!  Create a set for yourself and one to give as a DIY gift.
