5 Tips For A Global Style Boho Chic Mantel

Create a global style boho chic mantel easily with these 5 tips!

It’s Day 2 of A Very Global Christmas where Kathy of Up To Date Interiors and I will be sharing globally inspired Christmas decorating ideas for 12 days!  Yesterday we shared a tour of our Christmas living room tours (Be sure to check it out and enter the $300 Paypal Cash giveaway) and today is all about mantels.  This year, I decided to continue my Christmas color theme that was based on the Cozamia Parrot art in my living room throughout the house.  So, my family room mantel has a great blend of the peach, green, and teal color scheme along with the global vibes I love.  You can find even more mantel inspiration today at the end of this post.  I’m joining Krista of The Happy Housie along with some super talented bloggers to share our mantels. Be sure to check out all the different mantel styles PLUS Kathy will be sharing how to create a global style mantel for less on her blog.  You won’t want to miss that!  Click the image below for all the Very Global Christmas posts so far!

When it comes to my design, I’m taking the easy road.  I love creating and I especially love Christmas.  However, this time of year is the busiest for me as both of my youngest have birthdays 1 month apart (late October and late November), I host Thanksgiving each year, then of course the kids’ birthday parties (which I have one this Saturday that I’m not even prepared for!).  So, Christmas decorating must be quick, easy, yet make a statement.  Here are 5 tips for a global style boho chic mantel to give you all the global boho vibes without taking too much time.

Use art you already own

Instead of buying a new mantel art piece, I decided to switch around some art pieces I already owned.  This medallion art is from Minted and was part of my living room gallery wall.  A few switcheroos and it’s now a statement piece on my mantel….and in the right color scheme.  If you do need to make art, create a simple art piece in monotone colors.

Pull in your plants for Green pops

No global style bohemian space is complete without plants.  Pull in full plants to give you the most bang for your money.  I spotted this plant at Home Depot a few weeks ago for around $14 dollars.  Instead of hanging the plant, I placed it in my World Market urn to add some metallic touches.  I also added a few plants in tarnished planters to continue the metallic touches down to the floor.

The berry wreath was in my basement from spring of last year.  Not only does it pull the berry look from my living room Christmas tree, but it adds even more touches of green without the need of watering. Be sure to edit how much faux plants you use during the holidays, however.  A nice blend of real and faux plants and greenery is ideal.

Give Non-Global items a Global Makeover

Give those items in your home that aren’t typical global decor pieces a quick makeover with tassels.  I spotted this pearl garland at Michaels this weekend.  It was beautiful, but not necessarily in my style vocabulary.  So, I made some quick and easy tassels to attach to it and created a brand new garland look.

Along with giving makeovers, you may run into decor pieces that aren’t global decor but still work.  I fell in love with these ivory and green stockings from the Hearth and Home line at Target.  If you’re not familiar with this line, this is the home decor line created by Farmhouse style enthusiasts Chip and Joanna Gaines of the tv show Fixer Upper.  I may not have a farmhouse style home, but these stockings were reading Scandinavian Christmas to me.  So, I scooped them right up from Target.  I also found some colored jars in the coastal decor section at Michaels which also work great with my color scheme this year.

Create simple Christmas crafts

I don’t know of any blogger who can resist a Christmas or Holiday craft.  I love to create pieces for my home and that must mean you do too if you’re here with me today.  I created a trio of mud cloth or boholanfini inspired Christmas trees in my Christmas theme colors for my mantel this year.  I’ll be sharing the tutorial tomorrow so do come back for Day 3 of A Very Global Christmas where Kathy and I share a global style Christmas DIY. (update: Check out the DIY mud cloth wood Christmas trees tutorial!)

Hearth Love

Don’t forget about the area around your fireplace!  This little area is prime real estate during the winter.  Place a comfy chair and a few decor pieces…..or a lot…whichever floats your boat… 🙂  …. around the fireplace.  I used a stack of books as plant stands and a basket filled with wooden trays from the thrift store.  It’s my version of a Santa bag and I’d love to get those types of presents this year or anytime really.
