DIY Global Style Pillow From Rug
Creating a global boho home is easy with this DIY global style pillow from rug tutorial!
A few weeks ago I talked about my initial struggles in creating a global style home on a budget. Out from that struggle grew my hashtag and motto, #GetTheGlobalLook. This motto reminds me that having globally influenced decor is just as wonderful as the authentic pieces in creating the global look. The methods of styling a global home vary person to person. Some decorators thrift items, some purchase high end global furnishings/decor, and others like me toggle between the two. The Global Decor Made Easy series has been a fun way for me to share how I create my global style home without breaking my budget. A few weeks ago I shared my first post on tips for accessorizing and my second post was about styling nooks. One of the most swoonworthy looks in boho homes are created with lots of authentic pillows. Often these pillows are made from vintage kilim rugs. Today, I’m sharing how you can get the global look more affordably using chindi rugs!

First, let’s clarify that kilim rugs are handwoven rugs created by very talented artisans. A single rug can take weeks or months to complete making each rug super expensive, but well worth it when you have the budget. Chindi rugs are stamped rugs that can include some weaving and fringe work. These rugs are often found in India and come in the perfect size to create a lumbar pillow. Even if I had a kilim rug, I don’t think I could bring myself to cutting one up. Plus, it would be my luck that the entire rug would fray and disassemble in my fingers. Think of those cartoons when a string of a sweater gets caught on a nail and the person keeps walking meanwhile the entire sweater is unraveling in seconds. That would be me!
To create your own DIY global style pillow from a chindi rug, head over to my YouTube channel to see the tutorial! It’s a super easy tutorial and you’ll definitely enjoy the process of making your own pillows. In the tutorial I used a chindi rug I purchased from World Market for about $12! You can find the same rug by clicking here. Just imagine an entire sofa full of these awesome diy boho pillows! It would be super chic and at $12 a pop, so much more affordable. A single kilim pillow cover can start at $55!
