DIY Galvanized Tray with Global Style

Farmhouse to Global Boho Style! Give your trays a makeover and create this DIY galvanized tray with global style.

A while back I was told that I houses should be decorated in style of the location they are set. Well, I refuse that notion. Homes should be decorated in the style that makes you feel welcomed and at peace. Living in a rural area with many farms gives us limited options for the global decor style that I’d like to have in our home. We have pockets of towns with shopping areas, but the area is pretty much farmland. Though I appreciate farmhouse style, and have tried to decorate in that style before, there isn’t a complete connection with that style and our home.

My sister, on the other hand, lives out of state and goes gaga for farmhouse style and has told me how she would love to have access to the farmhouse style decor in our area. I’m a believer that items can be upgraded to meet the style you love, even traditional farmhouse style decor. So, when I came across some galvanized trays I knew I wanted to give them a global style makeover. Whether you love global boho style like me, farmhouse style, coastal style or any other home decor style, you can always make the decor item work for your home.

DIY Global Boho Style Galvanized Tray

One of the most important aspects of transforming decor pieces is the material. I was lucky to have access to authentic Indian Sari ribbon from Woman Shops World on Etsy and was inspired to combine a few to create the DIY galvanized tray with global style. Indian style is typically full of vibrant, bold colors and I wanted to maintain the look even with galvanized trays. So, I combined ribbons that would enhance the vibrancy of the tray.

The process is quite simple really. All you need is a glue gun and scissors once you have selected the ribbons you’d like to use. Start by gluing the end of the first ribbon at the seam of the tray. Continue to glue the ribbon around the tray until you have wrapped it the entire way around. Repeat with the second ribbon and third if you desire another ribbon. My tray had jute rope handles, but you can easily create leather handles by looping a leather strap. Use your trays to style vignettes, serve some Moroccan tea, or hold fall decor on your entryway table as I did in my early fall room tour.
