DIY Kilim Inspired Candle Holder

Infuse global style into your home in minutes with this easy DIY kilim inspired candle holder!

It’s another month and another post of globally influenced decorating!  For this month’s The Global Styler post, we are tackling global patterns.  If you’re looking for an instant change in your home, infusing patterns is the way to go.  Most of my room refreshes involve a pattern switch out of some sort.  Pillows, blankets, trays, or art that is full of global patterns can add instant global style to a room.  Today, my fellow hostesses and I are sharing global style projects you can make to add global pattern to your home.  My DIY kilim inspired candle holder is not only easy to make, but adds a cool pattern and loads of color to any table.

What You Need:

  • Paint pens
  • Glass container
  • Pillar candle

Start by cleaning your glass container with rubbing alcohol or glass cleaner.  I researched a couple kilim patterns and found a beautiful kilim pattern pillow that I wanted to replicate.  Select your paint colors and prep the paint pens.  Shake each pen then depress the tip of the pen onto a paper towel until you see the tip full of paint.

Paint on your design and let dry.  If you mess up, use the rubbing alcohol to clean the spot.  When you’re happy with the design, set your holder in a cool oven and bake at 350 for 30 minutes.  Let the candle holder cool down completely before placing your pillar candle inside.

I just love how this candle holder adds a playful pattern to my shelf.  You could use the candle holder as a container for other items like makeup brushes, flowers, or office supplies.  How cute would a row of these holders be on your desk?!  My daughter is heading to college in the fall and these kilim inspired candle holders would be great for her dorm room.  I can’t believe she’ll be leaving next month for college!

Try out this cool project this coming week and I’d love to see which kilim pattern you used as inspiration for your own DIY kilim inspired candle holder.   Do you think you’d use a colorful candle holder like this in your home?  How would you use the candle holder?
