5 Tips For Creating A Global Style Dining Room Vignette

Our early summer vacation was great in that we avoided long lines at Universal Studios and the cruise wasn’t overwhelmed by people.  The downside… all the summer decorating was pushed back so many areas of the house are still decorated for spring.  It’s pointless to do full summer decorating now since summer is almost done.  Instead, I’m making vignettes that transition my rooms from summer to fall.  Creating global style vignettes is an easy way to give a room a seasonal vibe without a full room refresh.  Here are my 5 tips for creating a global style dining room vignette.

Use Plants….and then more plants

You probably guessed that I would start with plants…and you’d be right!  In the fall, the dining room gets great sunlight and are the best spots for my plant babies.  I typically have them sitting on the dining or buffet table.  For your global style vignette, be sure to incorporate a few plants.  Mine are potted in terracotta, which is the perfect color for fall.

Use Fall Colors

I’ll preface by saying that fall colors typically are warm shades.  However, I love to mix the typical fall colors with non-traditional colors.  Ginger jars have a great shade of blue that compliments the warm tones in the terracotta.  I also added a stack of orange tone plates atop of a white platter to bring in more fall tones.  They look pretty great against all the greenery of the plants.

Don’t forget the metallics!

Many global chic tablescapes and vignettes incorporate gorgeous metallics.  I’ve used items in several metallic finishes to create an eclectic mix.  Group some vintage and antique pieces like napkin holders or Viking salt boats for unique touches.  Aren’t they adorable?  My mother recently gifted those salt boats to me and I’ve been eager to share them.  Of course you can incorporate hammered finishes like these large vases.

Incorporate interesting globally inspired pieces

Here is your opportunity to use all those small global style items, but with a twist.  Find interesting ways to showcase your worldly treasures.  Use Asian ceramic tea light holders with small faux succulents, wrap global style bead garlands around the jugs or vases (check out my DIY version here), and whip out those global napkins and textiles.

Spread decor along table

A vignette doesn’t have to be secluded to the center of the table.  Spread your vignette across the table instead!  Whether you extend all the way down the middle or solely cover one side of the table, your vignette will be fantastic spread along the table.
