Velvet Drapes in the Dining Room

This year has been the year of velvet in the design realm.  It’s on sofas, chairs, pillows, clothing, and the newest velvet drapes here at Casa Watkins.  I’m still working on persuading the hubs to exchange our leather sofa for a velvet sofa….it’s not going well so far.  I may just have to sneak them in!  I hadn’t thought about velvet drapes all too much until early this year.  Many of my relatives had velvet couches and I just adored the soft, buttery texture of velvet growing up, but it’s not the most forgiving textile and my rugrats would probably destroy it.  I held out on any large velvet items, but decided my dining room needed a change and the luxe look of velvet is exactly what I needed in this space.  See how the dining room looked this past winter.

Deciding on the color proved to be difficult.  It took a few days to decide whether I should go with something bold and bright, or dark and moody?  Plus, the green panels in the living room can be seen from the dining room and I had to keep color clashing in mind.  I searched a few stores, but in the end fell in love with a pair of amazing velvet drapes I found on Amazon (See available velvet drapes here). The price was not bad at all either!  For about $54.00, I received two 50×108 panels and am so happy with the the quality of each panel.

My set is a dark teal color that closely resembles a peacock blue.  What really shocked me was how good the yellow buffet looks with these new velvet drapes.  I had been planning to paint the buffet for months, but now I’m not so sure.  Looks like Big Bird buffet lives another day.  I have small update planned for the big buffet instead, so stay tuned!  Have you thought about velvet drapes for your home?  What do you think of these blue drapes?
