When it comes to hosting a party, I love to make many of the entertaining decor myself.  Whether I’m painting my own invitations, creating a bunting, or designing a centerpiece, customizing the party decor is exciting and adds personal touches that guests truly enjoy.  Using a wood burning tool, I customized a set of wooden utensils to create a tribal inspired pattern perfect for any casual bohemian or global style event!  This DIY was super easy and took less than 5 minutes.

The idea for these diy party utensils came from the vast Pinterest projects on wood burned kitchen spoons.  Some of the spoons are really ornate and incredible works of art.  I thought diy tribal wooden utensils would be great conversation starters, plus would add globally influenced elements to a table.  I love designing tablescapes and it’s truly one of my favorite things to do!  I remember volunteering to set the table as a kid just so that I could arrange the table myself.   Nowadays, it’s a mad rush to get the table set for dinner and feed my hungry family.  Creating some pretty utensils for a family dinner or a lunch with some friends is easy with a wood burner.  You can create any design you’d like and even use the wooden spoons as placeholders.  I went with a tribal mud cloth design and am in love with the results.  Here’s how to make your own diy wood burned spoons!

Be sure to use caution when utilizing a wood burner.  These tools get extremely hot and can burn a surface very quickly.

What You Need:

Insert the ball point attachment to your wood burner then switch it on.  Allow the burner to heat up completely (takes 3-5 minutes depending on the brand) and be sure to use the burner rest to avoid damaging your work surface.  While your wood burner is heating up, think of the design pattern you’ll want to create.  Tribal patterns have loads of geometric  designs that are super easy to recreate.

Use your wood burner to add your design.  Do not let your burner stay in one place for more than a couple of seconds as the burner works quite fast.  Keep the burner on the spot for darker pigments and swipe the burner quickly for lighter shades.

Have fun creating your own patterns.  You can even add your guest’s name if you have room on your utensil.  Repeat the patterns on the remaining utensils.  See! Super dooper easy, right!  Use palm leaf napkins for a boho affair.  I found these paper napkins at Joann fabrics a few weeks ago.  Joann fabric continues to surprise me with what they carry in their stores.

I keep a pack of wooden spoons around just in case of last minute events.  You never know when you’ll have to host an impromptu meal or BBQ.  In fact, these utensils would be great for your summer entertaining!   What do you think of this project? What type of pattern would you create?
