The Global Styler: Caribbean Style

Happy first day of May!

The ladies of The Global Styler are back and this month we are talking about the decor of our most favorite place or a diy project inspired by it.  It took me some time to select one location.  Just as my home style is full of global inspiration, so are my favorite places.  I love many various countries and been have inspired by my travels abroad.  Selecting just one proved to be a bit difficult.  In the end, I went with my first love, the Caribbean style of the Dominican Republic.

My home is constantly evolving to express my love of global eclectic style.  I still haven’t been able to develop my home in the complete style that I’d like.  Time, money, and of course availability of the items I’d like to use are always a barrier.  One day I’ll be able to have my home completely express my home style.  In the meantime, I’ll continue to drool over these inspirational Caribbean decor styled homes located in the Dominican Republic.

Key Components of Caribbean Decor Style

The use of coastal colors like greens, blues, and a sandy brown tend to be the key colors used in these homes.  Regardless of the decor style (traditional, modern, eclectic, etc.) there is an emphasis on natural elements in Caribbean homes.  Fresh flowers and plants along with natural wood reign in these Caribbean homes.  There aren’t too many painted furniture pieces, but if so, they tend to follow the same blue and green color family with the occasional white.  Finally, native handcrafted pieces find a place in Caribbean style homes.  Artisan handcrafted furniture or decor accents are typically incorporated homes located on Caribbean islands.

Do you see yourself using some of these Caribbean style components?  I must say that I do gravitate towards a blue and green color palette.  The plants and flowers are definitely a must in my home!

Be sure to stop by your other hostesses to find out which places they’ve selected and their DIY projects!
