My Home Style: Mixing Decor Styles

For the longest I thought that I my home style was non-existent, because I couldn’t identify one style to classify it.  It wasn’t until last year when I realized that the issue was not that I couldn’t identify my home style, but that I actually had several all rolled into one.  I wasn’t completely traditional, farmhouse, or modern.  I was mixing decor styles and that was great!  I’ve invited several talented home decor bloggers to another round of the My Home Style Blog Hop to share how they mix and match different home styles to make their own unique take on decorating a home.  You’ll definitely find inspiration to infuse into your own home over the course of today and tomorrow.  So be sure to visit each of the 12 bloggers at the end of the post.

Global Eclectic Collected Home Style

One of the ways to really identify what your influences are in styling your home is to describe your style in 3 descriptive style words.  It truly helps in continuing my home decorating adventures.  Plus, in my case, it helps explain my home to others besides the “cluttered” description my hubs offers.  There is a maximalistic element to my home style and I shared a bit more about balancing maximalism (not clutter) in my entryway here.

What I love about my home is that anything goes.  I love to incorporate artisanal pieces from around the globe as well as pieces inspired by worldly cultures.  Some global pieces can be pretty expensive and a DIY version gives me the global vibes at a pocket friendly price.  The DIY global bead artwork on my entryway table, for example, incorporated handcrafted Indian bone beads and only cost me about $16 to make unlike the $200 inspiration piece.

One of the main features in my home is the artwork.  I adore art and have several gallery style areas throughout my home.  You can see some of the other gallery walls in my home on my post Why I Broke The Gallery Wall Rules!  I recently switched things up in my family room and the new layout brings more attention to my art wall.  The curated pieces are various styles and create a casual artsy, collected vibe that makes my home feel welcoming….or so I’ve been told.

You can see more of the family room here.  Not only do I collect art, but I have a tendency to collect other artifacts and create vignettes.  Using woven baskets, handmade Moroccan bowls and trays, along with other storage containers allows me to corral my little treasures in one place.  Just as the artwork is displayed, so are these little collections.  I love to use Moroccan hammam bowls to display some global goodies like the Indian elephant garland from World Market.  You can see the other item’s I’ve styled with hammam bowls in my post, 5 Ways to Decorate With Hammam Bowls.

Don’t be afraid to mix and match furniture styles.  From the glam round table in my living room (which I will reveal more when I finish the room..heres a peak!) to the bamboo side tables, any mix of finishes goes.  I think you can also tell that I’m not afraid of mixing patterns and colors.  What can I say, I love a cheery room!

My home style is a complete reflection of me and family.  It is difficult at times to maintain a home style that is consistent when you have alternative styles.  My husband loves a more lux look and I’m definitely more laid back.  Finding balance between our two design styles has been interesting and continues to be an adventure.  I welcome you to find more inspiration by hopping along to the other bloggers sharing their home styles today and tomorrow.  Up next is Kathy of Up To Date Interiors!
