Blackberry Kiwi Mint Julep

Last week I shared a kiwi mojito and since I had so many kiwis left over, I decided to experiment with a few other ingredients and make a blackberry kiwi mint julep.  The gorgeous outdoor weather means I’ll be entertaining more and serving tasty cocktails are a must.  Having a twist to traditional cocktails makes your guests excited to try them.  As long as they aren’t too out there.  You won’t find me serving a bacon and cheese cocktail…although I could give it a try if someone else made it.

I’m definitely looking forward to the summer.  With all the snow and cold weather we had over the last few months, it’s so exciting to finally go outside without a coat and gloves.  This spin on a mint julep has me feeling like summer is here already.  You could whip up a pitcher and enjoy alfresco.  Don’t forget the chips and dip!  I shared my quick cheese dip last year and it’s always a hit.

I didn’t have any cute drink toppers, so I skewered a slice of kiwi and topped it with a blackberry to make one.  What does my topper look like to you?  I thought it looked a lot like a pacifier, but I don’t mind one bit!  Add a few sprigs of mint and your adult pacifier stirrer and you’re ready to enjoy the warm weather.

how to make a kiwi blackberry mint julep

One of my favorite things to do with fruit based drinks is to eat the fruit after I’ve finished the cocktail.  They are so delicious!!  You do have to be careful with the fruit in a sangria.  Sometimes that fruit can be much stronger than the drink itself!  If you’re not big on the fruit bits, you can use pureed fruits that would blend in nicely with your mint julep drink.  Creating a non-alcoholic version of this drink is easy by substituting the bourbon for gingerale.

Happy Entertaining!
