A curated casual global bohemian home tour

What is the inspiration behind your global home styling? (Do you draw upon your own background, travels, or simply a fondness of worldly cultures?
My home is my sanctuary, a place for retreat from the busyness of the world and so it is important for me to create a space that feels like a special oasis.  My home is filled with eclectic treasures that I have been collecting for years.  I enjoy objects that are sculptural and have a story or history.

To me there is a sense of romance attached to textiles and sculptures from other countries.  I have been interested in other cultures and religions since my college days and always frequented stores that carried artifacts or products from exotic locales.  Perhaps I felt that I was bringing the mystery home with me or could “travel” vicariously through these pieces.  There is also a sense that these pieces are rather unique since they cannot be bought in just your average store—at least not until World Market – and that singularity has always appealed to me.  I like to walk to the beat of my own drum and decorating my home is an expression of that.

What is your favorite globally influenced room and what was your thinking behind the styling?

If I had to narrow down to picking one room in my home, it would probably be my dining room since there are so many pieces in there that command attention.  From the striking suzani on the wall and the oversized Buddha head in front of it, it is a room that receives a lot of natural light and is a wonderful home for my many plants.

What key pieces in your home define your global style?
I love to layer textures and patterns.  As well as mix metals and natural materials.  Though, these are the global pieces that I adore and integrate throughout our home– Indigo mudcloth, Moroccan wedding blankets, rugs and pillows, Turkish rugs and kilims, Indian vessels and embroidered wall hangings, wood carvings from Bali, African baskets and a juju hat.
