New Year New Room Living Room Refresh…Plan D

This week has flown by so quickly that I can’t believe it’s a week later and time to share an update on my New Year, New Room Refresh challenge progress.  See my design plans from week 1 here.  I continued to deal with design issues this past week as several of the pieces I had planned to use in the room have either sold out or become unavailable.  I had to make several changes to the original plan that I now am on plan D!  It’s super easy to lose your mind when you have things change in your space and even more stressful when you select items that your spouse doesn’t like.  I had a long battle deciding upon which gray sofa to order.  I didn’t settle on a sofa until two days ago!  Here is my plan D mood board featuring a beautiful fog gray Kendall sofa from Cost Plus World Market.

I still need to order the curtains and decide upon the placement of the art.  I currently have a gallery wall full of colorful pieces and I’m thinking it needs an update that coincides with the new vibe of the room.  Since the majority of the room pieces haven’t arrived yet, I decided to work on the entryway.  I cleared out and organized the coat closet (see How To Organize your Coat Closet in 15 minutes), cleaned the hardwood floors, and received the wallpaper for the room.  The wallpaper is gorgeous!  Almost too gorgeous that I contemplated switching the paper location to the powder room.  It has a beautiful, luxurious design that screams to be used for more than an entryway accent wall.  For now, I’ll keep the plans as they are, but I am really being persuaded to a redesign.

Here are the plans for the entryway as a reminder.  The Candace Olsen wallpaper from Wallpaper Boulevard will cover the main entryway wall and wrap around to the powder room door.  I decided to shop my house for the accents instead of purchasing new items.  Stay tuned for a couple of DIY upgrades coming your way.

I selected a great new pendant lamp for the entry.  I wasn’t sold entirely on the hanging crystals, but this new light fixture from LampsPlus is a nod to missionary decor style and ties in the chandy from the dining room.  I’m wondering if I should replace the blue rug for something less busy.  What rug color do you think would look best here?

  1. I really like the cheetah print with that wallpaper. Why does everything have to be so complicated? On the plus, I really like the sofa!!! Great moodboard and I cannot wait to see what you do!

  2. I hear you on the plans changing! I love the wallpaper, too–it’s beautiful. Since the pattern is so organic, either stick with something similar or go the opposite and do a stripe or strong geometric pattern. Stripes would be my pick because they add pattern and play nicely with other busier patterns. It’s going to be great–we can get this done, even if it’s all the last weekend!

  3. That wallpaper will look great. Sorry so many of the things on your original plant didn’t work out, but this is looking great anyway. You are a pretty resourceful, that is for sure.

  4. I love how you’re rolling with the punches on this one Steph! I think we all are in some way or another this go round. Haha! The new sofa looks great, and I really think if you wanted a different color rug in the entry you could go with a distressed pink or yellow rug with pattern. Could be neat to play around with in Polyvore to see. 🙂
