Colorful Global Eclectic Living Room

It’s finally room reveal day for the New Year, New Room Refresh challenge and I couldn’t be more excited!  I started this venture as a way of combining my easy, casual global style with my husband’s more contemporary, modern style.  The final result is more than I could have hoped for.  The living room still has a global feel with a nod to the tropics infused with modern accents.  My colorful global eclectic living room is a great compromise between our styles with just a tad more of my style.

Like what you see, shop the tour is now available here

Here is what the room looked like before.  You can catch up on the road to the refresh here (week 1), here (week 2), and my DIY moroccan wood art during week 3.

And here is my newly refreshed colorful global style living room!

I had said several times that I wanted to change out the green curtains, but in the end I did decide to keep them.  The majority of the furniture was reused, but I did change out the sofa and one of the chairs.  Boy did this make a huge impact!  I adore how this gray sofa from World Market looks in the room.  I placed a couple pillows to bring in some color and texture.

The china cabinet was an experiment gone wrong, but it turned out so great in the living room.  I was going for a weathered look and it went overboard.  I’ll share more of my stripping adventures (umm..not that type of stripping!  Wood stain stripping!!) in the next couple of weeks.  The cabinet was styled with a few global pieces and minimal decor to lighten the bulkiness of the cabinet compared to the rest of the furniture.

I fell instantly in love with these glass and brass lamps from LampsPlus.  Oh my gosh the detailing is exquisite.  The mixture of glass and brass is so beautiful and adds a bit of glam to my room.  No, I’m not going full glam, but I do like the mixture of the lamps and new gold tone table with the other wood finishes.  Makes for one pretty eclectic space.

All the great colors were taken right from this gorgeous new rug from RugsUSA.  I was a little hesitant at first to use a rug that didn’t have too much white space on it, but this rug turned out to be perfect for the space.  It has just the right amount of blues and oranges which are my fav colors to decorate with.  Plus, both colors look amazing with green.  Enter the new plants…

My other plant babes have been doing great.  So, I picked up two new plants to the Watkins home this past week.  Snake plants are pretty easy to care for, so I’m not too concerned about that plant.  The new palm tree is going to be questionable.  This is my second time with this type of tree.  Fingers crossed it turns out better this time.  I decided to do a very minor refresh to my gallery wall.  I’m too in love with this gallery wall to remove it.  I added my new DIY Moroccan wood art and rearranged a few of the art pieces.  This low back midcentury modern chair is the perfect height so that people can view the gallery wall even when someone is in the chair.

A few more green accents throughout the room and my new living room is all set for guests!  I’m expecting a few guests over this coming weekend for my birthday and I can’t wait for them to see my new space.  You probably have noticed that the entryway is not shown.  Everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong in the entryway.  I’ll have to work on that space separately.  Whomp Whomp.
