DIY Shibori Wreath Ornament

Have you put up your tree yet!  My family and I usually put up our tree the first weekend of December, but that doesn’t mean that I’m waiting to create this year’s Christmas tree ornaments.  We usually have two Christmas trees with one as the family tree and the other as “mommy’s tree.”  The “mommy’s tree” is where I get to experiment with new looks or styles without needed the kids’ approval.  My kids get super excited to decorate for Christmas and if they don’t like something they will let me know in a heartbeat.  I get all the say on my own tree and I look forward to decorating my tree every year.  I’ll be sharing my Christmas tree on Monday, but today I’m sharing a DIY shibori wreath ornament that you’ll see on the tree.  As a bonus, I’m joining Ariel of PMQ For Two and other bloggers to share eclectic style ornaments.  Be sure to check out all those stylish ornaments after the tutorial for my DIY shibori ornament.

Shibori has been highlighted in so many home decor items this year.  From pillows to bags, shibori seems to be keeping its position as a top global style textile.  I was super excited to come across shibori-like ribbon a few weeks ago.  I used this ribbon for my DIY pumpkin placecards  and now it’s the perfect ribbon for a DIY shibori wreath ornament.  This ornament is so simple to make and takes less than 5 minutes!

I used a mason jar lid ring and wrapped the ribbon completely around.  Make a loop at the top of the ring with the excess ribbon.  Wrap the remaining ribbon around the loop then through the wreath ring.  Tie the remaining ribbon into a knot to secure the ribbon.  Use colorful taffeta or ribbon to make a bow for your new DIY shibori ornament.  You can hot glue the bow on or tie the bow after threading the taffeta through the wreath.  Insert a few sprigs of faux greenery through the bow and hot glue on the backside to secure in place.  Hang your ornament on your tree or use as an accent in your holiday decorating.
