DIY Moroccan Wedding Blanket Pillow

Last week, I shared Chi-Chi’s global boho room makeover and it has become one of my favorite rooms in the house.  There were a few projects made for this room and most of them were quick projects since I had limited time to complete the makeover.  I took some design shortcuts and one of those projects was my DIY Moroccan wedding blanket pillow.

I was able to get the look I wanted without breaking the bank.  Authentic Moroccan wedding blanket pillows can range upwards of $100!  A hundred dollars for a pillow in a kid’s bedroom is not going to happen for me.  Instead, I created this pillow inspired by Morocco.  Did I mention that it’s NO SEW!!

What You Need:

  • Ruffled trim with tattered edges
  • A couple of trims with sequins
  • fabric glue
  • lumbar pillow case (I got mine from IKEA!)

Wash and dry your pillow case.  You may need to iron it depending on your fabric.  Then, plan your layout.  Moroccan wedding blanket pillows have loads of textures and sequin sparkles.  Plan to use more of the ruffled or textured trim compared to the sequins.  I found a ruffled trim at Joann Fabrics that was perfect.  You could also use shortened fringe as a substitute, though I have even seen pieces of other material like a bathroom mat used.  White Buffalo Styling Co. has a great tutorial for a DIY Moroccan Wedding blanket.

Use your fabric glue to apply the trims and allow to dry overnight.  You could use a glue gun, but be prepared to adhere the trims again at some point.  The fabric glue has a much stronger bond than the glue gun.
