How To Create A Boho Vibe With Wallpaper

Thank you to Wallpaper Boulevard for sponsoring this post.  All thoughts, opinions, and euphoria about this wallpaper and post are 100% my own.

It has happened!  I have become #teamwallpaper!

I was pretty skeptical about wallpaper for a good portion of my life.  The negative experiences of others applying it or replacing it not to mention the awful process of removing old wallpaper had tarnished my opinion.  However, today I am a recovered anti-wallpaper-ist!  The wallpaper of today is lightyears ahead of the paper prior to the 2000’s.  It is manufactured to be easier to apply, comes in a plethora of designs, and is even easier to remove.  There are options like pre-pasted paper, wipeable paper, and even peel and stick options!  I decided to create a boho accent wall for Chi-Chi’s room which is currently under construction for the one room challenge. (see the latest post here).  Wallpaper Boulevard has a fantastic assortment of wallpapers.  There are options for every design style!

Here is Chi-Chi’s room before.  The lilac walls are plain and don’t offer much character in the room.

To pump up the volume and pizazz, I opted for this jungalicious wallpaper by my design idol Justina Blakeney.  The wallpaper is called Nana in Pink, named after the way her daughter was pronouncing bananas.  How cute is that?!  It features oversized banana leafs in shades of green and blue atop of a pink background.

With Chi-Chi’s room having lilac colored walls, I wanted to have a contrasting accent wall.  She loves pink and purple, so the pink background of this wallpaper is a superb platform for adding other pops of pink throughout the room.  Such as this hot pink rug!

The installation took less than 2 hours and I had the pleasure of working with a wallpaper installation company to help me out.  Ideally, applying wallpaper is super easy.  You can easily find a tutorial on YouTube or as a special treat, check out the tutorials offered by my blogging friends at the end of this post.  I unfortunately had several events scheduled this month, including Nugget’s birthday, so I needed professional help with my installation.  Here are a few tips to keep in mind when hiring a wallpaper installation company.

  1. Obtain at least 3 company quotes for your job request.  Some companies will try to sell you on various needs.  I had a company tell me that I needed liner paper prior to the installation of my wallpaper, even after I told them about the paper!  It clearly says that Hygge and West wallpapers, the manufacturer of the paper I used, was ready for installation without the need of liner.
  2. Don’t be leary about semi-gloss paint.  Chi-Chi’s room has semi-gloss paint and I thought that I would need to paint the wall in a flat paint prior to the wallpaper installation.  Glossy walls can be treated with a special wallpaper primer paint that will help the wallpaper adhere much better.
  3. If you are not sure how much wallpaper you will need, most wallpaper websites have a wallpaper calculator to help!  Be sure to take repeat pattern into consideration.  I only had one wall to do and thought that 1 double roll would be enough.  Luckily, I used a wallpaper calculator and found that 1 double roll would be enough, but because of the wallpaper pattern I may need additional paper to accommodate for the pattern placement.  One thing that can completely throw off your room is to have a mismatched wallpaper pattern.  Do yourself a favor and order an extra just in case.
